Reminds me of a story:

The flight crew breaks out of the clouds and gets a visual on the runway. The capt. states, "man, this is short runway, we've got to do it right on speed for this one." On final they configure the plane, flying right at Vref. He slams it on the runway, throws full reverse in, slams on the brakes and comes to a stop at the very end of the runway.

Staring straight ahead with a death grip on the yoke, the capt. says, "Man! that has to be the SHORTEST runway I've seen in my life!!!".
Looking left and right the FO says, "yea, but look at how WIDE it is!!"

yeah Flywithruss got Westover AFB at 11,800 its a C-5 reserve base and I also forgot Stewey/Newburg (SWF) aka HOOKERVILLE at 11,800 its a civ field with Marine KC-130's and ANG C-5's also a big BBJ finishing center and citation service center.

Newburgh has become HOOKERVILLE??!! Wow, things must be going down hill there.

What were you doing in Saudi Arabia? I was there from '79-'86. Dad flew for Saudia.

AF:D

I flew C-21's during Desert Storm.

We were based out of Dharan (sp) and stayed in Kobar towers. I had the best Chinese of my life in a restaurant with a couple who worked for Saudi. Thanks for the memories.

I wish you success!

3L/21R in Yuma Az. 13299 ft long. Just don't forget about the arresting gear. It has to be that long, it gets a tad warm there in the summer. I used to wonder why people lived there until I spent time in Fargo in the winter.

All the old BUFF bases have big runways. Barksdale, Carswell, Offut, Minot....etc I mean we had 8 engines but at 488,000 lbs gross weight at takeoff, those J57's with water injection (JT3's) had a he11 of a time getting us off the ground. Summer time in the south.... If you lost water on T/O. it got sporty. We had a few aborts on the runway where we smoked the brakes and had to run from the airplane as the brakes glowed and then caught on fire.

Well enough of that crap ......

Might want to check on old B-36 bases. THAT was a big A$$ airplane.

Take the jog through the center mat at MCAS Cherry point, North Carolina and you've got 15K+. Used to do it all the time in the F-4, so we didn't have to pop the drag chute. Had to shut down to repack it. If you shut down, you might break. If you broke, you were in Cherry Point....

Sawyer Intl (uncontrolled field) in Marquette, MI (an old SAC base I think)

12,500 x 200 (with a 75' pad on each side).

The UP of MI has some long old airbase runways.
