Amish RakeFight is absolutely correct.

There is only one correct interpretation of how you shall log flight time and it reads clearly in part 61.
 
The CFII may log actual as may the instrument student.
Exactly...paraphrasing..."(1)Any required pilot crewmember on board (except a CFII) may log instrument flight time in instrument conditions. (2)CFII's, being required pilot crewmembers, may log instrument flight time in instrument conditions as well, since paragraph (1) specifically excluded them."

I agree, however - look at 61.51(a)(1 and 2) and (b)

are we still logging time toward aeronautical experience requirements or a new cert/rating? I've always thought you were only required to log for currency and new certs ect... Never knew there was a requirement for everyone to keep an up to date log book.
