I was in Alaska in 1982 and remember CAT driver and his PBY.As for the pictures of BGBW they are authentic, nothing has changed and I flew over it on a beautiful clear day just 5 days ago.In Canada they do refer to it a Firebombing and Firebombers. Lighten up ol' AvBug buddy. :D

Thanks TurboS7 :

I really did not start posting on this American site to get into a my dick is bigger than yours contest.

However I do enjoy sharing stories and experiences.

My web site designer contacted me to day and asked if I could give him some more pictures of our next ferry flight that we have contracted to do as soon as we get the airplane airworthy, right now we are looking for a pair of props as we just found the ones on the airplane are corroded all to hell under the teflons.

So I will give him all the pictures he wants, it should be an interesting trip from North Weald ( EGSX ) to Tel Aviv ( LLBG ).

The interesting part will be flying with the new owners as escort from Cyprus to Tel Aviv, the Israeli airforce bought it for their museum collection and of course want us to have an easy flight into Israel.

Anyhow we have ferried these things all over hell and back including both sides of South America and both sides of Africa over forty countries in all and you can believe we have lots of interesting stories to tell.....

Then again maybe I'm just a B.S. er?? :D :D

Were you involved at all in gettiing that CAT out of the tundra just south of Egigik north of Pilot Point?? I have only ridden in a CAT once from Tipishcoacha to Yarinacoacha in Peru. Yes it was the JAARS CAT. Still nothing like a pair of 1830's at least you have plenty of fuel for your ferries. Have a great trip. Is there life after 60?I am starting to begin thinking that way.

Hi TurboS7 :

No I was not involved ith the Cat you mentioned, but we did ferry through Lima on the way to Santiago when were using Canadian PBY's in Chile as water bombers. ( I hope using "water bomber" is PC here. )

Sure there is life after 60, hell I'll be 70 in18 months and there is no way I could keep up with all the requests to fly these great machines for collectors around the world.

And AIDS does not concern me any more cause time will probably get me before AIDS could...so of course there is lots to look foward to after 60.....

In the next few months we have the Tel Aviv ferry , four pilots to type rate or do recurrent training with in Amsterdam and a contract for flying in Scotland...not to mention there is still the Brazil contract to be finalized.

Yup, we carry lots of fuel and the 1830 is a great little power plant, I think I am finally getting to understand how to operate them after around ten thousand hours of moving levers and switches on 1830's :D

If engines were gender defined the 1830 would be Alfa Male to listen to...Jets would be female to listen to because they just whine when you start em...

I have my share of time behind 1830-92's94's and 75's, the wonderful R-2800, R-3350, and a bunch of single pilot time behind ol' reliable, the R-985.

Hey you have me beat there, I never flew the 3350. :D

However I did get to fly the Wright 1820 nine cylinder in the C117. I prefeer the P&W, myself.

If God had meant for pilots to have inline engines P&W would have made them.:D

3350 on the C-119, 2800 on the 6 and C-82, 1830's on the DC-3'sand the R-985 on the BE-18's. I have my SE float rating but I never had the chance to do the multi-stuff.

The Queen of Dago Lake - an Alaskan Guard unit slung it out with a Skycrane. Training excercise benefiting a museum effort.

That was always a familar landmark for my mail run to Pilot Point.

Queen of Dago Lake - bottom of the page.

Dago lake. Dago creek.

I understand Dago creek was named after all the Italians that worked in the canneries.

Not many of them left. Now it's mostly Philippinos--which, ironically would be Italian for little Philips.

But I digress.

Cat Driver you should jot down some of your stories for us to read.
