Everything Instructordude has ever written on this board is a bunch of chain-yanking.

Gorilla, you'd be really happy to hear how many SNAPs in the Gorillas have backpacks and frosted hair. Sickening.

Still a great career and lots of opportunities with the coming hiring boom of 2007. Understand NWA and DAL will start accepting apps early next year for spring classes. They will be no shortage of apps, if they do they will just eliminate that college degree think to get more apps.

A dude showed up recently to be an IFF IP who wears his backpack around with both straps, drinks pomegranite juice, and thinks it's cool to file a jet route to a STAR rather than direct.

The posts you were making earlier referencing SNAP-y people infecting the airline industry also hit dangerously close to the mark in describing the young pups in the fighter community. The sad part is that the old crusty motherf*cker IPs who are supposed to beat that out of students in the SUPT and IFF pipeline are now nearly outnumbered by SNAPs.

What is really sad is the leadership that supports this pussification. Gak.

You guys are off topic with the military slant darnit. I want you to know that my backpack has one of those built in speakers AND a little hole for the cord of my IPOD Mega. Also has two outer net water bottle thingies that I use more smarter. One side gets my extra bottle of ultra hold hair gel and the other gets a spare can of frosting for my tips brah!

I love this job!

Some thoughts:

- Spike his pussagranate juice with "1 barrel" rum; laugh at the ensuing sputtering and whining.
- With RoundUp herbicide, spell out TOOL on his front lawn in 3 foot letters. Haul ass. After three days, the word will be revealed in all its crispy brown glory.
- Steal the backpack, place it in a toilet, and do what comes naturally onto it.

Form a clique. Regardless of how small it is, admit only old-school pilots. Recruit suitable noobs and shape them. Required activities - dice, drinking games, filthy jodies, bat hanging; ref any SEA River Rats approved activity.

Good luck, don't forsake the old ways. :pimp:

Mad691 - I apologize to you, and others here, for multiple thread jackings. The off-topic subject matter really struck a nerve with me, and I took it over way too much.

Sorry... Maybe we can move this to another thread. :(

Hate to be an old dumma$$ here, but what is a SNAP, and what does it stand for? I take it I don't want to be one, so I'm hiding my backpack, and I'm making secret pockets in my jacket for my blackberry and iPod :) But the frosting on my combover stays!

It means Sensitive New Age Pilot...and judging from the fact that you're a KC-135 guy who went through the T-38 pipeline, I don't think you qualify (which is a good thing).

There are still plenty who want to drink a Jack and Coke and smoke in the squadron bar, want to have a secret stash in the bottom drawer of the safe in the Weapons Shop, and who want to sing "I F*cked a Dead Whore By The Roadside" in a drunken stupor on Friday after the last go has stepped. That number is shrinking, however. The demise is aided by weak-d*ck leadership that is so concerned with making sure nothing remotely questionable happens during their year as Commander that they have all but banned each of those activities as a way of reducing their exposure.

It ain't what it used to be...and the sad part is that I'm a Gen-X'er myself, and I'm even mourning the passing of "how it used to be". I can't imagine how f*cked up it's going to be in my second 10 years.

I had no idea what the term SNAP meant, but it just gives a name to some of the stuff I've seen recently too. Things have gone way downhill, and fast.

Sad to say but I saw a lot of that in the Navy fighter ranks the last several years. I'm happy I've retired and moved on. Sad to think what the future might be like.
Where's that crud table...

Wrong. NWA will take until 2008 or later to cycle through all the deferrals to recall and have to start hiring off the street. Even after the bottom pilot is offered recall they have to go back through deferrals in seniority order. Most that will be forced back per month is 10-20. It's going to take a while.

fly4hirw, that is not what I am hearing from our NWA pilots who are being recalled. We have Aug 01 hire who has been told he will be back in Feb, and then they will be into forced recall.

Mud--If you can hang on another 14 years or so, I'll send you my kid. He WILL be prepared to uphold the tradition! ;) TC

P.S.--I've got frosted tips on my hair but it's natural... :(

8 more years and I'll be on flightinfo searching for the best place to send applications!!

Besides...we know everything will be UAVs by then, heh heh.

Yeah, at least back to YG 90. Everybody who has gone through flightschool since then has been SNAP'd by the system. Guys being forced to go to rehab because they got drunk in port...skippers being fired because there was a picture of a hot chick (fully clothed) in a squadron training lecture. WTF? What do we expect.
Heck even if your squadron is a bunch of 'players,' the chances that the other heavies in view will also be is about zero. Guys can't blow off steam...go figure.
I can't explain the double strapped backpack, though...

Crud...that's a queer AF game, you one of those EA-concrete fellas?

He does not understand the process. They will need ~10-20/month through 2007. Even though they may get to the end of the list by early next year, almost 80% are deferring in 90 day increments for now. Every 90 days these pilots will be offered another recall. They can continue to defer as long as there is someone junior to them still on furlough. They will only force when they do not get enough deferrals returning in any given month.

With 700 furloughed, and only ~70 being returning this year, there are still 630 on furlough. Some will not come back, but even if only 50% do, that's still 300+ pilots. Divide by 20 month and you are into early 2008 before everyone has either voluntarily or been forced back. If more return in the end when faced with accepting recall or permanently giving up seniority it will take even longer.

Not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but unless there is a mass exodous of early retirements it will be quite a while before we are hiring.

Them's fighting words, seamen-boy. What other game allows you to get totally faced, body-check people, and get into excellent, mutually agreeable fistfights with guys of higher rank?

Oh I forgot, those AC carrier decks allow some hot shuffleboard action.

Seriously? Are you sh...ing me? My beloved Gorillas have turned into SNAPs? That's so depressing. :crying:

90% of the AF including SOF guys are SNAPs nowadays!!!! One of my budd's is an ADO in a SOF squadron - said one of the Instructor Crewmembers came to him the other evening about his student...seems the instructor was grilling thestud for GK before the flight...the stud requested to be pulled off the line because..." he was stressed out.."
:-\

F4H,

Your data is not accurate. They've already rolled through 450+ on the list, and even the CP's office says that all who want to come back will have a chance by Feb 07.

That said, the number of defferals IS accurate. It's actually more in the %85 percent range. The prediction is that people will start to get forced back to work about March 07.
