semperfido said:i have flown planeview for about a year and it is the nicest presentation i have ever seen or used. i have never seen or used an "EASY" presentation so i really couldn't compare the two. i assume you have used both?why is it 5 yrs ahead?
todays whiz/bang is tomarrows also ran! planview should be at the top of the heap for a little while longer along with "easy".
The only experience I have with Planeview is a sim demostration and literature so I'll compare what I have seen.
First, both are great advancements in avionics, no doubt about it. However, DFJ took the same Epic architecture and went well beyond. For example, the EASy aircraft fly a path rather than pitch. It's actually a much more efficient (and logical) means of flying the aircraft. Try it...you'll like it
DFJ also got rid of having to look down at an FMS screen to program it. On the EASy, all flight plan entries can be made via CCD and upper DU (large screen, top center (or bottom center if you so choose). Now, each CCD is in a position where either pilot hand flying the aircraft and wanting to change something on a screen, he doesn't have to switch hands on the yoke to do so. In the Gulfstream, they chose a stick style controller near the right/left side windows. For example, if the pilot in the left seat is flying with his left hand (logical, right?) and wants to manipulate a screen, he has to now fly the plane with his right hand, freeing the left hand to stick. Petty? Maybe, but not logical in my humble opinion. Now, our SOP is to have the PNF control the I-Nav with AP off. AP on, FP has control of the I-Nav. There are times when the PNF is busy, like any aircraft, where the FP will "multi-task" for a short time.
I'm not trying to knock Planeview. I'm just saying Gulfstream could have advanced their version by leaps and bounds as DFJ did. I'm sure you can (or will
