Guys, just make sure you are getting your opinion across to your reps. Don't not get lulled into thinking your voice doesn't matter. There has to date been little emails or calls to ALPA on this matter(at least nothing more than the ordinary). There is always tough talk on the boards here and on DALPA forum, but no follow through. If only a handful call or write, they consider things to be a non issue in my observations. Please, I can't say it enough, get your opinion heard. Remember ALPA represents both mainline and regional pilots, make sure they understand where are percentage stands!
That's because we never hear about things like this until its over....

That is the problem. They need to ask, go seek out input from the group on issues like this. Really this is a no brainer.

Our 44 Chair stated he had not heard that, and that it was political suicide for ALPA if they did it as the pilot do not want that. To me it appears they get it. If they act differently, then they are going against their own words.

This might be a dumb question, but how exactly do I get a hold of my reps? Do I just send an e-mail saying I am fully against any more relaxation of scope or are we supposed to call? I'm not exactly an active union pilot, but I am up-to-date on my dues.

You are in good standing and therefore have a voice.

Call, e-mail, text, sms, etc. Make them get the point. I do all of the above.

That is the issue, pilots think they do not have a say unless they are involved, you do.

Where those airplanes go is where they will stay. I'll bet my paycheck on that.

The company will also bet you paycheck on it too!

I told everyone this about a month ago. I saw this type of deal coming. It makes such sense for the company to push this. They need the jets for the LGA stuff. The need 100 seats. The MD-90 et al is too big for a lot of it, and the 175 is a bit too small.

I got the impression that the company can ask as much as they want, but that we would never agree to it.

This makes me sick to my stomach to even contemplate it. We are now reaping what we have sown by NOT voting in Dnestor and like types in the last round of elections. If this current MEC agrees to this abomination then there needs to be a recall drive immediately. If the recall drive does not work then ALPA needs to be decertified. We would do better on our own, hell we could do better being non-union if this were the case and keep our 1.98% for ourselfs. Alright, I am no longer sick to my stomach...I am pi$$ed off to no end!!!

Just shows to go ya that it isn't so much the union, it's the people (reps). We have had many over here saying the exact same things about our union and are convinced that ALPA would solve all our problems. No matter who your union is, they all need members that are informed, engaged, and willing to participate. Apathy is the company's best friend.

Council 81 LEC knows nothing of the sorts, emailed me today that he will "check into it"...smells like trout to me though?

I would love to see Lee Moak out! I have done everything I can to get my feelings accrossed to my LEC since ACL told me to quit bitching and call my reps and I feel it has done DICK! I saved all my emails back and forth and will post them on the Crew Room Door if this goes through. My message: We have extremely inadequate representation. If we are hearing it now wait until post SOC, I feel like they are holding out info but maybe they really are just pawns in a DICKTATORSHIP?

Hoping for the best, JP

Just got of the phone with my rep. He stated in no uncertain terms that this is an internet rumor and that the MEC has not met with the company, nothing has been negotiated, it is not on the table nor will it be. He re-iterated that the entire MEC is aware of how the membership feels about scope and that it is a hot button issue that is not going away.

I will trust him at his word at this point. However, it certainly wouldn't hurt if all the other reps got a few phone calls and emails today to remind them of whom they are representing and how we feel. Also, email the entire MEC.
