K4 WILL continue to hire over the year, flying is at or near record levels, new airplanes WILL be put on line....They just needed to balance out crews for now, hence they are emphasizing 400 classes for a bit as opposed to 200.

I heard from a guy that is in class right now that those of us who postponed class will be in the next one sometime between March - June. Is this also what you have heard as far as a time frame is concerned? Do you have any more info as far as anything else is concerned?

There were 8 400 and 4 that showed from the cancelled 200 class. 3 of them got moved to the 400 once they started class and the other was current on the 200 from elsewhere so staying 200.

I wish they would have switched the -200 guys in the first place. I would have been just as happy going to the -400.

still a slowdown...

My contact there was just told that things are still slow. Two classics slated to be parked shortly and the -400's are just operating at a "normal" pace...not a ton of flying as he was led to believe when he was hired.

Not sure what the plan is but I was still hoping to end up there...sounds like it's getting tough for any of these companies to make it any more.

I was thinking the same thing Guam. We are 'making it' just fine. Connie doesn't move a plane unless he is making money. Things have slowed down a bit but we are still quite busy. The 400s don't sit very much. in a 24 hour period the average 400 has spent more time in the air than in has on the ground. The classics have slowed a bit but so what. This industry is cyclical. In 2008-2009 we went from being really slow to working so hard it made many of us miserable (but the checks were great).

In the year or so working for Connie, I get the sense that he would rather pass up a long term contract that makes just a little money so he can have the aircraft available for that last minute trip that pays a lot more. (eg: military work) Sine he owns most of the aircraft outright there is no debt that he has to have guaranteed income that a long term contract provides. Anyway, still a pretty good place to work, I get treated fairly and enjoy the people (most of them anyway )

Geez guys, sorry...didn't mean to insult anyone. Obviously I'll never get there if I'm already pissin people off with info I was told from someone out there doin it. He's been there one year and is just stating what he is observing. My comments echo that of a lot of others in regards to the industry being a "tough environment." I certainly did not mean that your company specifically wasn't "going to make it."

Lots of companies are cutting back, cancelling growth, furloughing crews, etc. and no one is immune in my book.

Sorry to have stirred up such a hornet's nest!

Contract /Supplemental /ACMI flying what ever you want to call it is a tough way to make money. But if my observations over the last 40 years mean anything, if I was to put my money on anybody the name would be Kalitta

My contacts in operations said there was the one week slow down after Christmas. But after that it picked right back up. Of course they are shorthanded.

From someone with military log experience:

Kalitta isn't going anywhere. Neither is NAA, World or Omni. The military doesn't have enough organic airlift to come close to what they need to move the troops and cargo worldwide.
