I'm heading to K&S this summer and have a question about the sim. The -200 Sim in PHX has a -300 autopilot. For someone who knows very little (so far) about the 737 is this a big deal? Currently I fly CRJs, is the autopilot that different? Is it worth the extra cash to fly the -300?

The -300 autopilot, specifically the flight guidance system, is about 100 times more intuitive than the -200. I think, if memory serves, there were 5 steps in getting the flight director hooked up with the autopilot after level off in the -200. In the -300 the flight director and the autopilot "talk" to each other (are interrelated), so clicking on the autopilot is a matter of moving a lever, selecting a heading and altitude (can be preloaded prior) and rolling on.

no matter what you are gonna do fine. that is the first thing to remember. however the key thing to making it easier is the -300 style autopilot. the -300 style autopilot is far easier to use and understand for pilots flying current gen aircraft than the standard -200 autopilot. IMHO that is the reason people at HPA seem to prefer the -300, for the autopilot not for any other of the systems diffs which don't effect too much from a pilot perspective.

Hey there Jets.

I went to K&S a couple of months ago. The 200 sim is not a big deal. I have been flying the 737NG for the last couple of years and flew the CRJ before that. I did the short course (2sims and a check) and did not have a problem. I thought that trying to fly round dials after being on glass might be tough, but I had a good training partner ( a 757 guy with 737NG experience) and things went smooth. I guess it could be because I'm on the 73. I had a good instructor too. (Mike S rules)
Don't sweat it. I would be more concerned about the latest hiring ratio at SWA.

My two cents ...good luck

Another vote for Mike S. The man knows his $hit. However the -200 sim that K&S uses in PHX is THE BIGGEST TURD of a box I've ever been in. That includes the FS Level A LR 25 sim in TUS. With your TT and exp. you'll be fine with the -300 autopilot.

And while I'm ranting.. WTF is up with Boeing not having pitch sync on the FD??? Hello!!
And is it just SWA that doesn't have DME hold?? I asked about it early on in ground school and the instructor never heard of it..he thought I was on crack. And I've heard they actually make a device that makes the radio altimeter callouts instead of the FO, been around since about 1980!!...And..oh he!!nevermind..It's Friday night and I need another margarita. I'm just happy to be here...What was the original question again??

I did the K&S thing with the 200 sim. It is a no brainer. The sim is very easy to fly and the autopilot is not to bad. The auto pilot and the flight director do talk to each other.

Oh yea and Mike sturgis is the bomb. You really want him to be your sim instructor...."10 4 good buddies" he is hysterical
