You guys crack me up. I'm tired of everyone acting like Southwest is the airline they've always wanted to work for. Stop the B.S. Most of you never considered Southwest until all the majors stopped hiring. Pre 911 how many of you were actually willing to pay for your 73 type?

I hope the DB sees through your line of crap and doesn't hire you. I would have to say Southwest was, and is, a great company because of people who truly want to work there. It shouldn't be a place to work because no one else will hire you.

Very well said. Amazing how the head's can spin after the number 1, 2, and 3 choices are no longer a possibility.

I was wrong. I thought the title was about you taking a leak. My observation is that some WN pilot's who have been here for years act as though this was their first choice and not their fourth.

I think your idea of "the DB sees through your line of crap" is a bit narrow minded. I am sure you weren't your wife's "first choice" either.

Nothing more than the airline of "What's happenin' now." It's human nature.

OK, I'll fess up. . . . SWA wasn't my first choice either . . . . .

But it was on the list (in case this gig goes South). . . .

I just want to work for Southwest because of the upscale clientele.

I know people who really have always wanted to work there and have been turned down.

I know people that never wanted to work there that got hired.

Looks like the hiring gurus need to tweek their radar a little.

I know plenty of guys who wanted them first, and some who only moved on to Delta, American, or United when they didn't get hired by Southwest. Personal choice. I personally have no interest in the one aircraft - domestic only model. I was POed at the airlines that charged $50 bucks to send in your app. If they want to require a type though, more power to them, you don't have to apply.

The best airline is the one that hires you. Of course nobody wanted to fly for them before. You are stuck flying the 73 for the rest of your life! Now that being said, flying the 73 seems to be more appealing that flying an RJ forever, or not having a job at all.

Somebody had to say it.

You could say the same thing about Alaska, Cathay, any of the cargo carriers that are currently hiring....just about all the viable operations right now except the US Military perhaps.

That eliminates two of the majors currently hiring.

Timing is everything,
A man's got to do what a man's got to do.

WHO THE FORK CARES!!!!?????? Quit acting like a little B*ICH! Why does it matter? You're actually pissed because guys that you believe didn't have SWA as their first choice are getting hired over there? Are you serious? The folks getting hired there deserve to be there. How long have you been in this industry? Not long if this is the petty sh*t that cracks you up. Don't you know that way less than 50% of the folks flying at one of the big boys are not flying for their first choice? Very few people get to pick their airline. Quit bitching and compete. If they like you enough you'll get hired. Just because you may have had the "I've wanted to fly for SWA ever since I was 5 years old" thing going on doesn't make you more deserving of that job than anyone else. Any airline I'm trying to interview for will be my favorite airline at that time. That's the attitude you have to go in there with. Maybe the guys getting hired are better at faking it than you are at the real thing.

I still wish you luck in reaching your ultimate goal Captain Over. This issue is very petty though.

Who cares if it's where you wanted to go? The best airline is the one who hires you. Heather Locklear was my first choice for a spouse, but she wasn't taking applications at the time. I thought I was set when I was hired by UAL in 2000. The paradigm has shifted, now the best careers are SWA, FedEx, and UPS. Will it change again? You bet it will. Some jackass 10 years from now will be saying............I'm glad airline ABC didn't hire me............ If somone can guarentee me to the airline that will be around for the next 30 years, I'm ready to listen.

Love the one your with.

In 1999 here were my choices of employers

FedEx
UPS
Delta
Southwest

In that order.

Then SWA did something cool, they dropped the type rating requirement for the interview. I thought, heck I'll get a type if they will hire me. (which I consider the best way to do it). The fact that FedEx didn't hire me and UPS & Delta never called pretty much helped with my decision. I was going for STABILITY.

I got the type before the interview even though it wasn't required. Southwest was my number one choice. I wanted to go to the airline with the strongest balance sheet and Southwest had that long before the bottom dropped out of the industry. Of course I had my apps in with other carriers as well. Didn't want to put all the eggs in one basket.
