So, I'm a furloughed airline guy. I'm supposed to have 6 months of jumpseat privileges after my furlough date. The TSA made my company take away my I.D. Badge, so I can't jumpseat. I hear their trying to work that problem out, but it'll never happen in time. SO, I've got a job working for my old 135 operator, but they're moving me out of the base where I live and back to my old base 3/4 of the way across the country. We have no scheduled service, and rarely fly back (to my) home. So how can I get back and forth? I usually have weekends off, and I've got a house, family, etc. here in ATL. The company that I'm furloughed from doesn't offer service where I'm going, so I can't ride on them.

HERE'S THE BIG QUESTION: I've got a badge with my 135 operator. What is the likelihood of me getting on a flight as a jumpseater(riding in the back, of course)? Or are there any other suggestions?

Thanks for any advice.

I called airnet about 6 or 7 months ago about jumpseating. At the time they told me that they only let company people use their jumpseats. Maybe I'll try again, but I don't think that'll work. Thanks, regardless. Keep the ideas coming, please!

Clarification

I guess this may help. The easiest companies for me to ride on would be Delta, American, or Southwest. I'll be trying to get from ELP(El Paso) to ATL with some regularity, and back of course. Southwest goes to BHM, which is close enough for me. My company used to have an agreement with Southwest; I guess I'll try and get that going again. It was scrapped after 9/11, but SWA's website says they still will do it. That could take a while, I'd bet, though.

I know at Skyway we have had Airnet and other 135 guys jumpseat on us. I really don't see a problem but you should check with someone at your company about reciprocal agreements with other carriers. Just ask the gate agent or better yet the Captain, getting thru the gate agent is usally the hardest part.

Take care and good luck

It depends if the 135 carrier you work for has aggreements with airlines. At Express Jet we have very few 135 guys on the list.

Now as far as having 6 months of JS "priviledges" from your furloughed airline....I hate to be the barer of bad news but this is completely false. Once you are furloughed you are no longer an employee in the eyes of the FAA and therefore not eligible to jumpseat on 121 airlines. Even the Pan Am guys are no longer jumpseat eligible due to the fact they turned in thier FAA operating certificate.

Sorry about your furlough.

SVCTA:

MY furloughed brother, you have 6 month's of travel privileges, but not including the jumpseat. You can list on a US Airways flight through the 800 number and buy buddy passes, but you cannot jumpseat without an ID.

Disclaimer: Things around this company change so fast, this could have very well been included in your furlough package. However, if you heard this from managment when you left, take it with a grain of salt.

They all LIE!!!!!!

That is all.

Yeah, I heard from the ALPA rep that we were supposed to have 6mo of JS, and 1 year of Non-Rev travel. I thought we just had 6mo of non rev per the contract. I'm not one to argue when it's a better deal. If non-rev were an option I'd just do that, but Airways does not service the area where I'll be. The closest they come is DEN out of PIT. All the rest are code share deals on UAL, which puts me right back at square 1. Again, DAL, AMR, or SWA would be ideal. Does anybody have the contact info for their JS Coordinators?

Back in my 135 days America West had the coolest bunch of pilots around when it came to jumpseating. I also jumped on Airtran once or twice with no problem. Good luck. I know what a pain in the ass it can be.

someone told me that ASA will take just about any 121 or 135 guys. Can anyone confirm or dispell this one? ASA would be a beautiful solution to this problem of mine.

I rode on ASA a few times as well. Not a problem either. In fact they once kicked a United guy off for weight and balance because I was there first.

JS/Non-Rev

If it weren't for bad luck...

Yeah 12 months non-rev on Airways. I never heard anything about buddy passes, they never gave much instruction on even how to get them in the first place. I wonder if that would help at least with getting reduced rate on the code share flights?

I've had good experiences riding with AWAC and Pinnacle as a 135 guy. We had an agreement with them and we were a REALLY small operation.

Why not just go to the ASA interiview? :)

Hope you're able to figure something out.

ASA doesn't fly from ELP to ATL.
