Looking at options in commuting over the holidays. Can anyone provide the protocal in jumpseating on FDX and UPS? Not even sure if the jumpseats are open yet. Our company is CASS approved, however, it still hasn't been officially OK'd yet. Thanks for any info

not at FedEx yet

Our union is working on it. But we are not CASS'd yet and offline is still not an option. No one wants this more than the pilots here at FedEx.

Did I mention we were in negotiations?

Goose,

If remember correctly, the union put out a blurb about jumpseating a month or so ago. I think the CASS system is in place, but management is holding back. Probably as you mentioned, because of negotiations.
Enjoy peak.

Your union should have all the answers to your jumpseat questions. Public forums are no place to ask!
IF I had a union, I bet they would have ALL the answers (as unions usually do  ) Nonetheless, this is an excellent forum in which to ask. So thanks for the reply but you didn't answer my question.

I believe jetBlue is up on CASS, no union. Although I think jetBlue hasn't been given the final ok.

Having a union is not a prerequisite of having CASS. Just need to be an ATA carrier.

from ups...

I'm pleased to announce that reciprocal jumpseats are now open with Atlas Air. UPS and Atlas Air have entered into a reciprocal jumpseat agreement under the Cockpit Access Security System program. This agreement will begin on December 3. In addition to Atlas, UPS currently has agreements with American Airlines, American Eagle, and Continental Airlines. We are coordinating with the following TSA-approved carriers: Alaska Air, Horizon Air, Northwest, Jet Blue and United on entering into an agreement. We anticipate the rest of these carriers to be on-line within the next few weeks. As these airlines are brought on-board, I will communicate this on my hotline.

Your right, we don't have the final OK yet. However, I know we're in the system and are set to go anyday (last I heard).

I'm just trying to see if anyone has used UPS or FedEx(in the past) and how the system worked. For example, how to find out schedules, listing, how far out can you list, is it more of a pain logistically or can it be done as a primary source of commuting. I have a trip that ends in the evening in TPA and looking to get home on the 23rd of DEC for Xmas. Never have done it and looking for some experienced guys/gals to chime in. Thanks

Thanks for the info. I know that will help a bunch of guys out.

the latest...

We are opening offline jumpseats to three new airlines who have joined the CASS Program -- Northwest Airlines, United Airlines and Jet Blue. Alaska Airlines has completed the development of their CASS Program and is in the final stages of coordinating security procedures with UPS. UPS jumpseats will be opened with Alaska Airlines as soon as the coordination is completed. Five other airlines are in the late stages of CASS Program development and should be joining the program soon. They are Airborne Express, ASTAR Air Cargo, ATA Airlines, FedEx and Polar Air Cargo. You can keep up-to-date on additions to the CASS Program by visiting the CASS web page on the AirUPSers.com website.

Does anyone know how we can find schedules for all the different cargo companies? I haven't had a hard time finding numbers for listing on flights at most of these companies, but it's hard to list on a flight you don't know exists. Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

How can I find out if an airline (9E) is on the CASS list that allow JS on UPS or Fedex?? If so, how can I list that JS?

Thanks in advance!

Nice how UPS guys are always riding with me, but there is no way in hell I'll be able to ride with them. Isn't that super.

FedEx is online with CASS. Unfortunately, your company has to provide digital pictures to the CASS database in order for you to JS on FedEx. Currently, only AA, AA eagle, Continental, and United have digital pics. Most airlines only require your passport but of course FedEx has to complicate things. Union is working on it. Anyway, I had the pleasure to ride in an AA cockpit the other day from LAS to DFW. No problems and everyone was fantastic. It's appreciated!

Just a tip. If the ticket agent enters your data in the CASS system (ie. your employee number, code (FX for FedEx)) and the computer return says you're not in the system, have them hit the "enter" button again to resubmit. It should pop up fine after that. I ran into this situation 2 out of 2 times so far.

Oakum--It's not the pilot's fault that CASS hasn't been implemented to a greater extent. Between management that doesn't exactly put this issue on the front burner to the TSA (need I say more? ) it's a miracle that anything is getting done.

We commuters had it good... No, we had it GREAT for a long time. Now it sucks and will continue to suck as long as we have terrorists and the TSA (It's a tossup as to which is the greater threat to aviation in the U.S.).

A UPS pilot has been one of many leading this fight for several years now and she has busted her butt to get us this far. Have patience.TC

Hey pal, we don't make the rules. Either your airline is CASS approved (and you are welcome to jumpseat) or your airline is not CASS approved (and you are prohibited from jumpseating by the FAA).

If you are CASS approved and wish to jumpseat on UPS I'll re-post what has been posted before. Unfortunately (for offline jumpseaters), our flight schedules have been removed from public (internet) view after 9-11 by security people. You can book a jumpseat 10 days prior by calling 1-800-228-2739 and following the prompts (4, 1) for "reciprocal jumpseat travel". You will be connected to a human being who will assist you in your travel plans within the UPS worldwide system.

If you're CASS approved, believe me ... we're glad to return the jumpseat favor.
