JFK holding today?

Anyone flying into JFK this afternoon around 4pm have to hold? Heard lots of airliners getting holding instructions today from Calverton to Providence with 30 minute EFC's. Anyone know what the scoop was? The WX reported VFR at JFK at the time. Sounded like alot of metal circling around out there.
