Was wondering if someone could post what a newhire monthly flying schedule would look like at Jetblue. IF hired I would be commuting out of the Chicago area and I was wondering how many days I would be home with the family.

Thank you all for your time.

The first few months on the Airbus would be reserve, 12 days off.
On the 190 it would be shorter due to the short time it takes to double the amount of 190's.

After you are able to hold a line the pref bid system allows you to bid min sched, max sched. Prefer off etc. So the average would be 18-16 days off depending on your seniority and the amount of flying you would be awarded.

Hope this answers your question.

Best of luck

How do the pilots like it at JetBlue . . . I have heard that people like it for the first few months and then it starts to get old quick.

How is the quality of life for line holders?

How is the quality of life for reserve pilots?

Thanks in advance,
2slo

I have been there for one year. School is intense and reserve sucks, but it's only a month or two. Every month my line gets better and better. Every month I get 20 to 25 pilots starting behind me. After one year I have about 250 FO's in front and after me. Right in the middle of the pack. No red-eyes, good trips and 15 to 18 days off each month.
Upgrade time in the 320 will be about three years and one year in the 190.
First year I made over 60K plus profit sharing, Discount stock purchase, Matching 401k and stock options. Not too bad.

Thank you to all who responded. Some very useful information provided. It seems that 15-18 days off each month is the consensus. How does commuting affect the 15-18 days off? I would be commuting out of Chicago. Would I have to commute to JFK on my day off (early show on first day)? Would I also have to commute home on a day off?

Thank you guys and gals for the information. I'm greatful for folks like you who are willing to take time and share valuable information.

Thanks again for your time!

You should try to get on with SWA because they have a base in Chicago.. Jetblue and SWA will probably both dominate the domestic market 5 years from now.. They are both career jobs.. You dont want to have to commute for the rest of your career!! Ask anyone who has commuted , it will significantly decrese the quality of life associated with being an airline pilot!! With that being said, if JBLU is the first to offer you a job you should jump all over that!!

As you gain seniority you will graduate to trips that you can commute on both ends. Commuting out of Chicago, as far as commuting goes, would be easy.

As far as quality of life issues, I am not one to OD on the koolaid, but it is good here. I have four other airlines to compare; I have few complaints here. Not perfect, but I will never apply anywhere else. Enough said.

I have interviewed and went on the phase two. I am waiting for the call. I dont have any nails left to bite. I have a question for the JB pilots. I have not heard much about this five year contract deal. Could you please give me some incite? Thanks

Wow: Now if that isn't an invitation to some flame I don't know what is!

"Could you please give me some incite?"

Have fun with that everybody.

The pilot agreement is a 5 year automatically renewing document. It spells out the basic work rules and entitlements. You can only get fired for doing something really stupid, which is the same as any other company. There is absolutely no truth to any of the rumors that people are being let go at the end of any term of this document. It automatically is being renewed at each expiration. There are changes that have been updated in the agreements since the company's inception, mostly simplifications to the agreement to the crewmembers benefit.

It is not as complicated as you might think, a very simple agreement so that good judgement and common sense can be applied to running the company.

This is pure flame bait...

Or perhaps reality. And probably nothing against Jetblue. It's a job, not a hobby, whether it's Jetblue or Southwest or whatever the place-to-be-du-jour is.

OR,

The agreement is a typical airline agreement. It includes your pay rates, etc. Not a big deal, you are sent the agreement to review after you are offered a class date. They send you 2 copies. One to sign and return.

Nothing in there that would make a difference in whether you came to work here or not.

I've been at JetBlue for a few months now and I'm having a big time. Seems to be a great place to work, if you don't mind an airline life. Sure there are a few growing pains associated with the rapid growth, but that's a good problem to have.

Good luck in phase 2. It's goes fast. Be ready for the question of the Airbus or the E190. I personally would go with whatever gave me the quickest class and lowest sen #.

Smok'n Man,

Good answer. You're right on. Hope your doing well. Do you miss Miami? I don't.

On the question of commuting in the day prior, even while you're on reserve they try to give you a late reserve time the first day. I've had several. I've also had several trips that started early the first day, so I had to go in the night before.

I usually plan to go in the night before and then just delay if I get lucky and have a late show.

Offshore racer: You might be great jetBlue material because your skin is pretty thin. I was simply making a joke about the fact that you typed incite (as in, incite a riot or incite a flame war), as opposed the the word I think you were looking for, which was probably insight.

Didn't mean to offend anybody, I just thought it was an interesting and maybe unfortunate misuse of the word incite, considering how volatile that subject (the 5 year contract at jB) is.

Thanks, I am on my way. Good luck to you at jB.
