The rumor mill is spreading fast on this one. FAA has awarded an 89th slot to Jetblue for 8 flts per day till expiration on 10/31/2008. New runway will open at that time.

I believe Jetblue is banking on further expansion at ORD based on future consolidation within the industry. This is probably the only way they get a slew of gates after 10/31/08. Antitrust action by the DOJ may require UAL to divest itself of some ORD gates/slots to get approval on any merger.

Jetblue still needs a midwest hub for their 190s. It will be interesting to see how they handle that aspect.

ORD-JFK is a weak market, suitable mostly for int'l connextions. Perhaps they have something else in mind?

TWADude, Don't you remember when we used to fly that route 10 times a day from STL- JFK in the 80's and 75's? I hope we start that route soon as well. I commute out of ORD to NYC and usually go to LGA because there are only 3 rj's that do the ORD JFK route. I think it would be a good route. As you said, lots of international connections. I always hear people when I'm commuting to LGA that they wish there were more flights to JFK....time will tell.

Zipper: I do recall. My point is that they were connections for int'l flights, not primarily O&D. LGA is by far the more popular for O&D.

For the right price I believe they will come...

Just have to wait and see...

Will the addition of ORD by JetBlue really surprise anyone? It's the 3rd largest city in the US. Not a matter of "if", just a matter of "when" in my opinion.

So what's the story in class?? What's the breakdown? How many regional, miltary. And the aircraft?

Honestly ORD is a competitive hornets nest. CAL had done a pretty decent job of beating them up in EWR. It will be verry interesting to see what happends when both AA and UAL go after them.. Good luck.

Slots aren't the problem in ORD, gates are. Even during bankruptcy, UAL was paying full lease payments on empty gates. The city tried to take them away (for violating the "use it or lose it" part of the contract) but they lost in court.

Jet Blue has been trying to go to Chicago since they opened the doors, until some gates show up, no Jet Blue.

Read recently where CAL was the one losing their shirt in EWR. Analyst mentioned that CAL over-reacted on the Florida routes and it's cost them $25M in 4th Q of 2005. Jetblue's presence there is strictly to accomodate NJ travelers that had been driving to JFK. He mentioned Jetblue is breaking even on the routes.

They actually tried to stiff ORD for the rent in BK, so the threat by ORD went away.

A little bird said it's supposed to be announced tomorrow. We'll see if it's fact or fiction.

The delays in Chicago should be just as long as Newark. More time to spruce up the cabins.

P.S. Guys....don't go to hard on any new Marines coming on board. God help him.

Adding your touch of class to the discussion again?

Was that a question or a statement?

JP4, I suppose you don't have to perform any cleaning or do any a$$ kissing for one of the richest men on the planet.

Nope...none at all. Some operations still have respect for their crews. Tough luck for you if yours isn't one of them.
