Don't be so pessimistic. Of course you will have opportunities to fly the 787 - at the restructured American Airlines after they acquire JB! Keep the faith brothers... Unfortunately you will have to fly a junky MD83 first...

Whatever happens will be whatever is most cost-effective for management. What that involves has entirely too many variables to calculate until more information is gathered, such as who is merging/buying, etc.

To say this is unrealistic fearmongering and is ridiculous. Could it happen? Sure. Will it happen? It depends on the circumstances. Likelyhood is low in my opinion.
