Somewhat surprising on Pit, since this is not a cheap airport to serve. If B6 can expand along with WN, then costs should remain static. No official B6 press release yet, but the Pittburgh paper is reporting. Pit will start with all 190 service to BOS & JFK, and Jax will have all 320 service to JFK. Also, Buffalo will get BOS service presumably on the 190. This is the beginning of upstate service to BOS, which will probably be expanded to ROC/SYR when more 190's arrive later this year or next. Should help the RASM.

You know, for the most part many don't have good to say about you... But today, I'm going to compliment you on a job well-done for knowing what cities JBLU will announce today, even before most employees even knew by company e-mail-- Kudos

2006 is the big fight. SWA vs. JetBlue. It will be interesting. Maybe that's why Jetblue is forecasting a loss for the year.

Does anyone know where Airtran is expanding into??

Actually it was reported on Airliners.net when I awoke this morning. I'm sure one of the Pitt reporters passed the word along before the story broke.

These are subtle competitive routes and yet there are no direct challenges with lots of frequency that are meaningful. It will happen, but I don't see any major confrontations for a few years yet.

Uh....Providence and Manchester are close to BOS.

Uh...JetBlue announced flying out west at airports that you may not know are SWA cities.

Low-fare Airline to Add Flights Long Beach-Sacramento, Burbank-Orlando, FL and Burbank-Las Vegas

NEW YORK, March 7, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- JetBlue Airways (NasdaqNM:JBLU - News) today announces new destinations from Southern California, featuring its award-winning service, 36 channels of DIRECTV programming and roomy, all-leather seats. JetBlue will introduce service between: Long Beach, CA and Sacramento, CA, effective May 3; and starting June 30, between Burbank, CA and Orlando, FL; and Burbank and Las Vegas, NV.

``Our Southern Californian customers have been asking us to serve more destinations since we first entered the market in Long Beach nearly five years ago,'' said David Neeleman, JetBlue's Chairman and CEO. ``With these new routes, they'll have even more chances to take advantage of our low fares and award-winning service.''

The Greater Los Angeles market represents a mix of industry clusters that has some similarities to the Metro Orlando market. New Routes:
Long Beach, CA to Sacramento, CA
(effective May 3, 2006)
JetBlue is bringing Southern Californians northward with its newest destination. Sacramento, CA will become the seventh destination served from Long Beach, CA and the second Northern California destination.
JetBlue's regular fares will range from $54 to $129(a) each way. Customers can save an additional $5 each way by purchasing online at http://www.jetblue.com. Other restrictions apply (a). Long Beach, CA (LGB) to Sacramento, Sacramento to Long Beach CA (SMF) Depart -- Arrive Depart -- Arrive 8:25am -- 9:50am 6:25am -- 7:45am (effective May 4, 2006) 5:05pm -- 6:30pm 10:30am -- 11:50am 9:10pm -- 10:30pm 7:10pm -- 8:30pm

Burbank, CA to Orlando, FL
(effective June 30, 2006) JetBlue brings more coast-to-coast service between California and Florida with new service between Burbank and Orlando. (JetBlue already offers nonstop service between Long Beach and Fort Lauderdale.) JetBlue will be the first and only airline to provide nonstop service between Burbank and Orlando. Orlando will become the second destination served from Burbank.

I think B6 has big plans for PIT because of the costs to do business there. It doesn't make sense to run anything less than 20-30 flts out of that airport. I look for them to start connecting the dots in PIT in the next few years, and yes you may see a 190 head to MCO/TPA, which is now securely in WNs hands.

PIT may be offering them a great deal to start service there. I don't know if you've been to PIT lately, but it's beginning to look like a ghost town. Some sort of special incentive may have been offered to JetBlew to get them to town.

Hardly competition when SWA is what 10 times the size of JBLU and there is direct overlap on what a hanful of routes...

and no BOS and JFK still aren't Manchester and Providence... MIA is not FLL..DFW is not DAL.....you get it

I hear the incentive package included, Primanti sangies, Iron City beer, and a chance to take some of USair's stranglehold of the market. Ooops they bailed a few years ago. Maybe the beer helped. Whatever they need to do to bail the taxpayers out of the millions we are flushing dahn the toilets thanks to USair's management's incompetence.
