Really... take a rational approach to the situation.. he was above average intelligence at a time when people were extremely ignorant (not that people as a whole have gotten much smarter.. the catholic church (molesters) still exists and we have TV evangelists.. but I digress) He conned some ignorant people into believing he had special powers in order to get wealth and power.. The Jews killed him b/c he was a criminal and stealing their money.. Catholicism/ Christianity is just popular b/c it has had better marketing than other religions.. Convert or we will kill you.. real nice.

Flame away..

same can be said for pretty much any religion-based nation. islam converted by the sword. roman catholic church did so as well. henry VIII removed the catholic church from engalnd, and killed those who didn't denounce catholicism.

i've said it before, and i'll say it again. keep your religion out of my government, and i'll keep my religion in my own house and church.

thee12nv,

You are a complete joke. - I truly feel sorry for you and others who share space with you.

Have you ever even taken a class or read a book about Jesus? Where exactly did he get wealth and power?

I am certainly not an atheist, but I do not believe that any one group of people has the inside track to enlightenment.

I believe that there may very well be a God out there. However, this god is responsible for the entire universe and every living being in it. I do not believe that he "favors" humans over animals. I do not believe that a perfect god of love would make a person worship him (how arrogant and self-serving is that?). I do not believe that a perfect god would require a person to "believe" in his "son" and be "born again" in order to be admitted to the "kingdom" of heaven. If that were to be true then billions of people over the past 2000 years who have never had a chance to even hear of Jesus would be sentenced to hell. The indigenous people of the Americas up until the 1,500's come to mind. What did all of THEM do? Again, this strikes me as a very arrogant attitude for a supposedly perfect god to have.

Religions all over the world since the beginning of mankind have basically been "clubs" with certain specific rules of membership. The supposed penalty for non-membership has almost always been the threat of death in the afterlife.

I live my life by one rule - treat others as I would have them treat me. In other words, be a good person. Don't steal from others. Don't lie. Don't judge others (didn't Jesus say something like that - he who has not sinned may throw the first stone.) Be a giving, thoughtful person. Respect ALL life, etc.

Very profound statement and one I happen to live by. Enlightenment is attained by the power of one's own mind and one's own self. Only through an open mind and courage of personal convictions can we become "enlightened."

Some words of wisdom from a prophetic friend:

"We are what we think.
All that we are arises with our thoughts.
With our thoughts we make the world.
Speak or act with an impure mind
And trouble will follow you
As the wheel follows the ox that draws the cart."

"We are what we think.
All that we are arises with our thoughts.
With our thoughts we make the world.
Speak or act with a pure mind
And happiness will follow you
As your shadow, unshakable."

"Mistaking the false for the true
And the true for the false,
You overlook the heart
And fill yourself with desire."

"See the false as false,
The true as true.
Look into your heart.
Follow your nature."

"You are your only master.
Who else?
Subdue yourself,
And discover your master."

There are lots more and if you want to read them, click here.

What an interesting thread......

of people who agree with one another.

Maybe yall could form a support group.

If Christ is so irrelevant to you all, why bother trying to bait on this aviation board?

I haven't seen any other religious baiting going on, other than Christian.

One other thing......

To all fellow Christians on this board........

I would like for us to consider making a pact from here on in.....

Please, consider not responding to anymore baited religious statements on this board through anything other than a PM. The debate of this type that goes on in the forum of this board seems to have little value other than to potentially damage our witness and has nothing to do with the over-all theme of this board. If someone has a genuine desire to engage in a discourse on your religion, they'll be more than willing to do it through PM or e-mail, otherwise, it's just fodder for argument. It's like PFT or other posts at this point, there's a wealth of info on the subject and people can get educated, so either use PMs or e-mail and it'll help keep the tone a tad more professional, which is a great witness for your faith.

and will those who get the coveted PMs promptly post them on the boards for proper ridicule by the heathens?

thanks,
Satan

Why would any of us need a support group?

I'm just tired of the religious right trying to get a hold of this country and its government. Religion of any kind has no place in the role of a proper democratic government.

I'm tired of hearing talk show hosts vilify as evil anyone who does not subscribe to the conservative right's view of morality. Rush Limbaugh and Shaun Hannity (sp?) come to mind. Don't deny it - I hear it all the time from both of them (by the way, as you may have guessed, I do sometimes listen to Shaun Hannity because he has many good points of view on the role of small government and fiscal responsibility - viewpoints to which I subscribe).

And, no, I am not a card carrying "liberal" democrat socialist with no sense of right and wrong. I am a life long Republican who believes in a small government, minimal taxation, minimal government sponsored social programs (fiscal sinkholes). I strongly believe in the death penalty for those who've committed murder. I oppose Affirmative Action. I supported going to Iraq and ousting Saddam (and still do). I hate terrorists and don't need to "understand" their plight.

However, I strongly object to those on the right who would have this country "return to the religious Christian moral roots of the past". What are the American citizens who happen to be Hindus to do? Or Muslims? Or Buddhists? These are all good people (except for the extremist right wing zealots among them) who happen to have different religious ideas than Christians. So what?

I voted for GW the first time but I am strongly considering voting for a Libertarian this time because I am very disturbed by how strongly he and his administration have been pulled to the extreme right of center on so many issues.

Thank you AAsRedHeadedbro..

Your point is exactly concurrent with my beliefs.. this post was not meant to bait.. Just bring up what many people believe..

Why does the Catholic church need so much money and land? Aren't they the largest landowners in the world? If I don't give 10% of my salary to the child molesters I am going to hell? A true, just God will judge you on your actions not that you gave money or went to church. I used to bounce at a night club in grad school and the biggest womenizers/troublemakers and sluts would be the ones I would see at church when my ex-girlfried managed to drag me there on occasion.

An intersting tidbit they taught me in Catholic HS was that the reason you are supposed to eat fish on fridays is b/c at the time the Catholic Church owned the fish market.

I am not just picking on Christians.. my previous flight instructor is a Muslim from Pakistan and he said the Muslim clergy had many incidents of child molestations themselves.

On a positive note, I do admire the Jews for not forcing their religion down anyones throats...

The religious right, of which I am a proud member, are hardly afraid of what will happen.

Ultimately, God will judge all of his enemies, and reward all those who respect him. You alone chose which side you end up on.

True, all of the baiting is directed toward Christians, including the little diablo fish. You feel so judges by us that you strike out in the most adolescent of ways. It is so obvious. You need prayer, big time. I am not ofended by your fish symbol. God, however, is.

You are not really baiting me, you are baiting God himself.

Every time you do this and "lighting doesn't strike", you salve yourself with the thought that God isn't real.

Look at it this way:

If someone who didn't know you said you were lower than average intelligence, would you be offended? I hope not. Consider the source - they do not know you, therefore their judgement has no basis.

However, if someone you know very well were to say the same, you would likely be hurt. You may then go into "attack" mode, as a defense mechanism.

Why does the Christian position offend you so much? Because you feel judged by it. You do not feel judged by other religions, or you would bait them equally.

Hence, your behavior is a defense mechanism.

I can't help it that we are all sinners and need God to save us. I can't help that the truth offends you so much.

Face it, the very fact that this ticks you off to this degree PROVES the weight you are giving it. You are UNABLE to laugh it off. You can't ever let it rest, and this thread proves it.

I sincerely hope you find God before it is too late.

Being saved is nothing to gloat over, but oddly it would seem to you that being unsaved is.

And as to your 'diablo' fish;

This like watching those nutacases burning american flags over in the middle east. Yeah, pal, REALLY stings bad. OOh. Stop it.
