Well, today's annoucements makes you wonder... What is it that Jerry has cookin? Deals like this don't happen over night...so a month ago when ASA announces we are shooting for super regional status and 500 planes, etc... now what? was it just to placate us? Looks like the 41 900's at mesaba/pinnacle stay for the 12 year contract... so thats those frames...

They had to know a month ago that Delta was gonna sell to transstates, pinnacle...

I cant speak for the rest of the guys here... but BH and JA better have something cookin... you can't annouce 5000 pilots and 50 states and then get 4 700's from horizon... that goodwill only lasts so long...

Think of this from a finance standpoint. What is the big phrase everyone likes to use? Diversify your portfolio. SKYW does a lot of flying for [now] the 2 biggest airlines in the world. AMR has made no secret that it wants to unload Eagle. A prudent manager, when thinking about diversifying his portfolio, would probably look at the 3rd biggest world airline as something he might want to have. Not saying its going to happen soon or ever, but it definitely could happen. If that is the case they'll probably operate them as a stand alone carrier simply because of their size. Also Mesa could fit for their US Air flying, but that doesn't seem as ripe as an AMR deal.

You ever think that they would just buy these holding companies after the deals were inked?

That's always a possibility, but buying a subsidiary from a parent company and a hostile takeover of a stand alone company are two totally different things. Obviously its a lot easier to do the former than the latter. A lot easier and a lot cheaper.

if they buy eagle and operate seperate... that doesnt fit the new vision of 500 planes for ASA... thats 3 seperate airlines... or if they buy eagle and integrate, then as a 10 year guy at ASA, i would get pushed back to FO in the ATR at San juan...

i seriously doubt either...

Lasted 35 years and Jerry is a billionaire.

i never said he was not a smart guy.. .on the contrary...i think he is pretty darn smart...

I was saying... you cant come out...say 500 airplanes... 5000 pilots... then not back it up with something..

Are you crazy? They only said that as a marketing gimmick. They won't grow asa to 500 airplanes, you guys are union. They didn't even grown their non-union airline to 500 airplanes. What makes you think they would grow their union airline to that?

Just curious, but what does it matter? Why is 500planes some benchmark? The only thing that placates me is more pay, more days off and better conditions. Frankly it's funny that a 50 state promise would mean anything to you! What gives?

i agree... my point is you can't announce all these great things... then have it fall flat.. you get productivity out of good will for only so long...

maybe my vision is going.. but isnt that the the new "Atlantic Southeast " vision... 50 states, 5000 pilots, 500 airplanes.....

Ask the nurse to skip the eye test on your next medical.

Flies to 50 states.
Operates 500 aircraft.
Carries 50 million passengers per year.

Since when does the company care how many pilots they employ?

agreed.... i stand corrected... spirit of the law.. letter of the law

on a totally unrelated note... how many pilots do we staff per plane?

Yeah.. nice job.

no worries... all on same team... just saying that BH needs to follow up with something...

red arrow days out the wazoo... extensions all around...

but dont worry, we are going to grow to 5000 pilots and be a super regional....

I would love to believe it... they just need to follow up all the pom pom with somthing more than 4 airplanes from horizon and keeping 6 planes in delta system...

Im just wondering how ASa is gonna get into Delaware????

My thoughts now that Compass and Mesaba are sold.

Skywest Inc/ASA purchase 28 total aircraft of Comair's CR7/9

Delta parks 90 something 50 seaters

Delta closes the doors of Comair by the end of 2010 (I dont wish this to happen )

Skywest Inc. still is looking to take the assets of a Bankrupt Mesa and

gain flying with US Air.

Just a prediction, not a hope for anybody to lose a job.

I think alot of people are taking ASAs new vision statement to literal. I mean, that is all it is, a vision statement. Does anyone remember ASAs last vision statement. Where was your passion for that one? I didn't hear anyone crying about not becoming the most "trusted an respected regional airline". You guys are making me laugh, you just keep trying to figure out where the "500" are coming from.

Do you guys have any idea how ridiculous you sound with this AS Vision stuff and where your 500 airplanes are? Did you try looking under your bed?

rediculous..what are you talking about....... there is a huge difference between saying we are going to be the "online airline" or '" we're going to strive for five" and "we are going to have 500 airplanes"

there is not a lot ambiguity in that last statement...

i don't know how any more literal a CEO can make a statement. he says our goal is to have 500 airplanes... now we (asa pilots) are being accused of taking that too literally?

my original point was that i hope there is something else cookin.. they could have just said we are looking at other opportunities, etc... but when you put something so grandiose as 500 airplanes...you better have something to back it up other than 4 horizon jets and an extension of 6 200's from delta.

What's ridiculous and different from the last vision statement is that this one actually has a number on it... not a feel good, happy frappy term to live up to and make warm fuzzies everywhere -- these were hard numbers that someone in mgt or marketing came up with and was agreed upon by management...

put up or shut up (directed at mgt in the most respectful and professional way possible of course)

My goal has always been to go Mach 23 with my hair on fire... I ain't got there yet, but hey-with enough vision and a positive attitude, who knows?

-That announcement was just a lame PR stunt-and attempt to get some good press. The board probably gets really tired of seeing lost-luggage stats and on-time performance numbers that suck. Do you think he really believes we will be the "most super-duper regional ever?" Nobody flies their own planes to all 50 states-not even any major.... That part was really dopey.

No-he just wanted to give people a reason to think the announcement was something to crow about.

-Just like my goal of trucking along at Mach 23 with flaming tresses. Probably won't happen, but Brad and I can announce anything we like.
