Don't know how much potential there is when there is so much competition and the floor has been set so low. I don't claim to be a yield management expert, but anytime air travel is less then a bus ticket I seriously question what fricking business I've gotten myself into.

I think alot of pilots would not stand for that. That would be the break in trust that this company is being held together by. I think a pay cut may actually force either a union or a mass exodus to SWA or CAL.

I think that the next year will bring some stability. Just a guess, but with many legacies in BK and reorganizing, the loss of Song, and the stabilization of fuel (high or low, but at least stable) things will pan out.

The corporation is not a person. It is an amoral animal-like consciousness that must get the most from workers for the least cost. If that means appearing to care, it will appear to care. If it means appearing to threaten loss of your job it you don't agree to less pay, it will do that too. This it will do without compunction, joy, meanness, anger, or any other human emotion. The bottom line is its only driving force and it will, like a chamelion, change its appearance to maximize this. It will hire a "people person" if this works. It will hire a "hatchet man" if this works. It is neither good nor bad, it just is. To maximize the bottom line. This explains everything you'll ever need to know about your current or future workplace. Workers in this country were able to unionize and enjoy great benefits for many years because corporations used to be ethical and good? No. But they had to appear that way because this would maximize the bottom line. Airlines and other companies move jobs offshore or declare bankruptcy to zero out pension plans because they're bad? No. But it appears this way and it is done to maximize the bottom line.

If you think that anyone at your company cares about you, really, then you are in for a hard fall. The corporation, if necessary will put you and your family on the street with no more thought than wiping dirt off a windshield, if it maximizes the bottom line.

The animal is doing a great job if "virtually everyone" you fly with thinks they care. It is amazing what it can appear to be in order to get more out of you at less cost. Good luck.

Lighten up Francis, I must have been thinking of Paine field (near Everett). The aircraft go there just prior to final delivery to customers... (According to Boeing's website)

I still could swear I saw a 757-300 being put together in Everett.. Oh well, I'm not near as wound up about it as you obviously are.

If you actually would READ you'd find that I didn't call you on it at all (read, "Did they used to assemble the 757 in Renton?"). I simply asked if at some point they had moved the assembly line. You said that in 1997 you had toured the operation at Renton, and I thought I had remembered seeing the line in Everett in about 2003. I looked in my logbook and found that I had flown a Hawker in to Paine Field and driven over to the Everett plant for the tour. Evidently, the 757 goes over to Paine Field before final delivery for customer pick up. Which must be where I (not you) got confused...

Perhaps my poor southern IN terminology threw you off ...
