If you mean Japan Airlines, the airline that operates the 747-400's, 777's, and 767's, they do not hire non Japanese citizens anymore. Jalways, which is a wholly owned subsid. does hire foreign cits onto 747 classics and 10's. WASINC and PARC would be your best bets for this one.

I have Japanese citizenship, and even have a cousin who will be upgrading to 747-400 Captain within months at JAL, and I cannot even apply right now because to Japanese standards, I am not considered fluent. (yet) They have their own flight school in California which produces their cadets.

Good luck

Japan Airlines is actually taking applications over the internet for interviews in early 2004 . . .seemed like all they wanted was FAA or ICAO Equivalent ATP license with jet type rating.

Hey Barbiejet, I sent you a PM.

It was less than 4 months ago that I talked to JAL recruitment. I don't see why they would change their policy. There are more than enough cadets, which they paid for to train up to a frozen ATPL.

Where on their website are they advertising for pilots? Are you sure that it is not for JALWays outa Hawaii?

Cheers,

I'm going to have to call my cousin.

Listen,

JALWAYs is a great job...you furloughed major airline guys should give then a call via HACS and/or WASINC. YOU are more than qualified.

This whole crap about a "cousin" BS is just that. If you are qualified on paper and don't step on yer crank at an interview, you'll get a shot. And a great job it is. Go for it.

Well I would have to say that Mr.B is way outa line. I never said that Jalways was a bad job. I never even came close to implying it. Where you got that idea I have no fricken clue.

All I said was that I have family that fly for JAL, (why somebody would lie about that, I don't know, especially considering it did not help me, (yet)) Previously, THEY (JAL) did not consider foreign citizens. This is JAL, NOT Jalways, They operate as seperate companys. When I say JAL, I do not imply contract employment, as is with Jalways. A number of years ago, JAL hired many foreign citzens, but they changed their policy about 10 years ago. Maybe they have changed this again recently. Considering they were going through seniority integration with JAS shortly ago, with possible lay offs considered, while also operating their own entire flight academy to train local cadets, I wouldn't think so, but they do have quite a number of retirements coming up.

I would happily apply to Jalways through PARC/Wasinc if I had the heavy experience, but I do not.

If anybody thinks the above is "BS", call JAL (NOT Jalways through PARC/Wasinc) but JAL recruitment, and ask them.
I would be a very happy camper if JAL has indeed changed their hiring practices. As with JAL, I would be more competitive than with Jalways.

Good luck to those who choose to apply to either, if both are indeed interviewing.

just checked wasinc.net . . . JAL wants B747 FOs and SOs
base in HNL
3 yr commitment
need: FAA ATP or ICAO equivalent, 1st cls medical, 2500 hrs, 300 PIC, 500 hrs in Jet, 20/60 vision, max weight of 200 lbs with BMI index of 27 (wtf?)

if anybody knows someone working there, any info on JAL would be great. thanks!!!

Blade230 is correct.

JAL corporation itself does not employee foreign citizens as pilots on a full time basis anymore.
Parc and Wasinc do employee expat pilots on a contract basis with North American bases, California, and Hawaii. As listed above.

Just a few questions about JALWays for anyone in the know:

How is the pay?

How long are their contracts and what are the terms (ie, could you leave early if hired by a US major)?

What bases do they have in CA?

What kind of schedules do they have for FO's?

How do people like it there?

For JALways...

These guys do the contracts also. I have a friend who flies for them and loves it. Some hate it. Physical is tough, Training is reportedly the toughest and most demeaning imaginable-6 months in Tokyo.

If you are an LBFM fan, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better job!
