If your health is slipping then take a long term leave to regroup, or get out all together. Being a captain at the regionals or a 737 f/o is not "making it" and you can always get back into it if you feel better a year or two down the line.

Why on earth would you get back into it after leaving? I doubt it's going to get better and after your year or two off, you will be back to the same old grueling schedule.

Well, unless you think the industry will be getting better, hahah....that was funny

Last time I checked when I worked there you had the option of not going over 14 hours. If you chose not to you could always call scheduling.

On that note should the ALPA drive fail I still plan on having the goodbye ALPA BBQ. Though I no longer work for SkyWest I still promised a BBQ. I am a man of my word and should the pilots vote ALPA down they will be rewarded with one helluva BBQ.

lol Some guy was so pissed about my post that he PMed me to tell me how smart we are as pilots. That post was not flame, my bad.

I have flown with new F/O's that are so bummed about pay that they tell me they should have gone to med school. I just tighten my straps, and let the F/O explain his intellect to me for about 300 miles

The next day the F/O arrives at the plane with his epaulets on backwards, and tells me how he failed out of college after two weeks.

I'm an O.K pilot but probably would have failed out of med school as would alot of the guys that i fly and drink beer with.

Sounds good. More stories you wish you could sleep through. LOL

why do alot of pilots think they were smart enough to go through med school, just because they cruched their way through a few type rides.

Med school is harder than memorizing a few memory items and botching your way through some v1 cuts.

Its always been 16 hours for pilots, are you sure your not a sky mattress? Only FA's had the ability to call in after 14 hours. Hope you study for ground school as well as you know your ops specs you need some help. Have fun at your CAL job and lets hope you wash out of training and then forget your flight info login and password beeotche!!!

Tell us how big the BBQ was for the last union drive that failed. Your still so wet behind the ears your mom is still making you hanky's. Finally cease to come to the regional boards since your "no longer at SkyWest".

lol yeah my post kinda pissed a few guys off but that wasn't my intent.

Its just funny how many guys chime in with the......Well even though i flunked out of college and did gallons of LSD I should have gone to med school/law school/joined NASA/became the CEO of a fortune 500 company/started a business/gone to topgun......but instead I paid $30,000 to get a regional interview so i could quit my job at red lobster.... :laugh:

Great Thread everyone, I mean, it is mostly the standard complaining (which we do best), but I think we need to take a SERIOUS look at lifestyle / sleep and what we are really willing to sacrafice for this job.

I applaud anyone who leaves this profession in the interest of their health and any other "more important things in life"

It takes guts to walk away after working so hard for so long. Let's TAKE IT BACK!

As for the thread drift re: pilot intelligence. It seemed like prior to 9/11 the talent the airlines attracted was somewhat impressive.

Now you can see the quality beginning to match the pay/QOL expectations... just about anyone with a decent head on their shoulders wouldn't enter this career today.
