AZtruck,

No, i still have not heard anything yet either. Yeah, i agree, calling this week seems prudent... no, i do not think they would get upset since it's at the end of the time frame they gave us. But, of course, i find it highly likely that they will be tight lipped anyway. I'll let you know if i hear anything.

Hey guys...When I interviewed they told me that I would know something in two weeks...4 months later I found out that I was in the pool. It took me another 4 months to get a class date. The people in HR are very nice and I dont think that they mind if you call (I did), but they are anything but speedy.

KS and pilot monkey:
Thanks for the info, I guess patience is the issue here, will keep you all posted if I get any news.
I may have another 121 opportunity come up at the end of the week, which I may have to take if it takes so long to get in a class. although I'd hate to ruin my chances as IA is where I want to be.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Jenga,

Are you at Island Air now?

Also, I noticed that ever since Phyllis left Island Air, the situation with notifying applicants of results of their interviews has really gone tango uniform. Go figure...

I wish.

I moved here (HNL) 4 months ago and am commuting to the mainland. I love it here, but I have absolutely no idea how long it'll take to get selected for a class.

Oh yeah,

That's right, they sent it through the e-mail...no phone call, no letter and if you did not reply, they think you arent interested. I never got the e-mail for my class date...I had to call and find out they almost didn't put me in the class....and I already worked for the company.

Bottom line...bug the crap out of them

FYI: When I interviewed, they said, "you should hear soemthing in 2-3 weeks." Well, 4 months later I got a letter. Class was 4 months after that. During the waiting time some of us called, we all got the same answer. "we haven't made a decision yet, we will let you know when we do". Keep in mind, HR does not make the decisions, they only do what Fly Ops tells them.

News from flt ops: Aloha will be having a class soon, (no date set) when they do, they will take some IA pilots. After that IA will probably have a small class of about 4. Best guess at this time is it will be Jan or Feb.

For you guys that just interviewed, keep in mind that there is no order to how they pull people out of the pool. As Jenga said, there are people that have been in the pool for over a year and were not called for several classes.

Just got off the phone with HR. They told me that there will be letters sent out, to the people who interviewed last month, by the end of this week. The way she worded it, though, is that these letters will likely only be in reference to being in the pool. No surprise there. Also that would go hand in hand with what Sleepyhead said. By the way thanks for the updated info Sleepyhead.

The thread is entitled "Island Air Poolies" - is that your question?

No...I am unfamiliar with Island Air. Tell me a little about it?

It's a small DHC-8 outfit in Hawaii. Owned by Aloha Air Group (also owner of Aloha Airlines). There are about 50 pilots there and four Dash-8's. They fly to the Islands of Moloka'i, Lana'i and Maui.

Just wanted to thank everyone here who has kept me updated on Island Air. I am mildly excited because i recieved the letter today hiring me into the pilot pool. I say 'midly' since from everyone here it sounds like I still have a long way to go.

Especially since Jenga, Broth9640, and Skyride56 have been in the pool for so long. Good luck to you guys and I hope things work out in the end after such a long wait.

Thanks again everyone!

By the way....FreightDog....how are the master and mags holding out on your "north shore cruiser"?

knowledgeSeeker:

Congratulations on being hired into the pilot pool, I am sure it will take a lot of patience to get that class but at least you have something great to look forward to.
I finally accepted a class for a 121 airline here on the mainland, not a great airline but at least I will be getting alot of 121 turbine time while I wait to hear from IA. The only reason I took it was all the other guys (Jenga etc.) have had to wait so long
Keep in touch if you hear any more news.

I wouldn't know about the north shore cruiser... that ride has faithfully served our free-love, free-spirit friends for awhile now. However, it's bound to be a donation for a tax writeoff. I haven't seen it since the mags and master were installed, but I hear it's a riot! LOL

AZtruck,

good luck on your new job. hopefully at some point in the future we will be at flying at IA together.

Frieght Dog...yeah MiniMeGotWings blew your cover last weekend.

dang, i was just about ready for the checkride in the north shore cruiser when the girl had to get up and leave the island....i am thinking when she gets back i am going to have to get current again..."master-mags on- clear car...rrrmmmm".

MiniMe?? That violent drunk that likes to beat up on check airmen? :D

As for the cruiser... I'll have to go thru the initial.. at least you had the honors.

KS
I got my letter from IA re the pool yesterday so hopefully we will meet one day in Honolulu.
Where are you flying now?
Luckily there is no contract with my next job but anticipate being there at least a year until IA calls.

AZtruck,

I am flying as a skydive pilot in Hawaii...just passed a 1,000 turbine pic last week, which is great, but at this point there is nothing left professionally to get out of this job. on a personal level, though, it is really enjoyable and at least i do have a job. Yet I am thoroughly aware that I must move on if I am ever to do anything outside of a dropzone.

Yeah, hopefully I will see you out here sooner than later. By the way where are you living now? Have you been out to hawaii besides the interview?

I'm surrounded by friggin' idiots

Okay in my defense, I wouldn't have taken a swing at him if I'd known he was a Marine (or that he was going to tell everyone within earshot what I've done)...what can I say? One, or possibly three, too many Guinness' that night. Hey FreightDog, you should thank me...he was afterall videotaping YOUR sim session and sharing it with us. Hehehe. KS, and everyone else, congrats on the letter from the fine folks on the south ramp. Hope to see you all out there sooner than later.

Good... and you socked him so that took attention from that videotape. I do thank you! Beer's on me... :D

KS:
No I have never been out there other than the interview, but have a friend in Aloha who loves it out there.
I am in Athens GA, along way from Hawaii and will be commuting to St. Louis to fly J32.
I think nowadays moving on to IA and then possibly Aloha is about the best anyone can ask for in an aviation career.
