I just got done speaking with someone who attended this years Women in Aviation Conference down in Orlando and the word on the street is that instead of giving away type ratings like they normally do, CAL gave out 12 flight officer positions with the airline. Half of these "scholarships" went to women with under 1000 hrs total time, no jet, no 121/135. And the low-timer of the group...get this... had only 300TT and 12 ME...wet AMEL ticket. I couldn't frickin' believe it....but I guess the way the industry is today...anything is possible.

Its probably not true... Ya'll need to relax a bit

CAL wants low time pilots so when they come to the group and ask for scope, paycuts, or contract extensions, vs. job cuts, the low timers will go for it cause they cant go anywhere else.

They will not be able to go anywhere if things go south. United did this in the 90's. They stopped the practice when these pilots could not hold an ATP and meet ICAO mins for a type rating. I am sure that CO will get in to that mess too, since all of their pilots are typed. It really huts with the ETOPS qual.

Knowing KD Jost anything is possible. Honestly it is the best possible training program for a 300 wonders to go through. Everyone I know over there loves it.

Gonna need something other than someone you talked too and the word on the street.............12 ME.......not gonna fly

I'm a FO for a regional with over 4000 hours and 2000 hours on ERJ. I didn't get the scholarship. I was even there at the conference and talked with K.D. It makes me even more dissapointed after hearing such a low time people got the "scholarships". Yes, I am a female.

There were atleast a couple hundred in attendance to this banquet...there must be someone else out there that witnessed this.

So you can confirm that CAL was giving out these "scholarships"?

With your time, you would have made such a better candidate. What were they thinking?

dui

Try to get a DUI. That may help. Actually you' ll be awarded the 777.
I am no kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just talked to a friend that was at the conference. CAL did offer scholarships to 12 people that gave them first officer positions in the company. The applicants had to go through an interview and sim ride for the award.

Wtf!?

Can anyone tell me when and where the next Women In Aviation confrence is going to be held. I'm gonna crash that mutha f^&king party.

A female friend of mine was at the women conference and met a senior guy at CAL whose intials are D.L. She was not even gonna talk to anybody since she thought she would not have the mins ( about 1700 tt including 1100 121 sic turboprop and a 4 year degree).
The guy asked her if she was looking for a job and then asked her if she knew anyone in CAL. after she said no, He gave her his card, and then handed her resume to somebody and said "another one".
so far nothing happened.

I went to Chicks in Planes and the "scholarship" rumor is true. They did offer the ladies FO positions (lucky chicks although I wouldn't want to be in this position...it's bad enough to be a qualified female and get a job legitimately...everyone still thinks you got the job with 300TT). ANYWAY, I do not think any of them had 300TT and 12 ME but I don't know 100% for sure. That would be pretty crazy. When they announced the "winners", it seemed to me that they were all captains at commuters at least. I met one of the girls and she had around 4500 and 1600 PIC turbine.

With that amount of experience, I hope they bumped her up a few hundred seniority numbers. 1600 PIC turbine!!! God, I have so much respect for women like her. They're so experienced and knowledgable. I would feel soooo safe if I were a passenger on this hot sticks' plane! Women are such flying goddesses, they need to be credited more for their flight time.

Oh STFU Mr. Sarcasm! All I was saying is that she wasn't a 300 TT person like someone else was talking about. Plenty of people (male and female) are getting hired at SWA and CAL with times like that.
