The economy seems to be sloooooooooowly getting better, anything looking up just yet?

Sorry.... I'm impatient...

Actually in my industry Aviation it's getting slower. But there is hope.

- 70,000 cuts foreseen, if war ensues
- American possibly goin under
- Bombardier, 3000 cuts

Doesn't look too good to me...

Wow! Can I have some of what you're drinking????

No offense, but the economy sucks, the markets are at 6 month lows, the airlines are screaming, AA just got pulled off the S&P 500 because it's stock price is soooo low... Midwest Airlines fell 34% JUST TODAY!

I think things are bad, aren't getting ANY better and will more likely get worse before it gets better...

Actually, the economy does not suck and their is no direct correlation between the economy and the stock market. Unemployment remains less than 6%, housing starts are still strong, sales of durable goods are strong, and our GDP indicates the economy is not all that bad. The stock market is more of an indication that investors are cautious and concerned with the upcoming war. Sure their are companies having trouble but, their has also been some very positive earnings posted by companies listed on the NYSE and NASDAQ. Their is certainly room for improvement with the economy but, the stock market is not one of the technical indicators for determining the health of the economy.

what planet are you from? was the stock market not at a 6 month low the other day? did unemployment not take a big jump last month?

Our industry? new plane sales at a 12 year low, THE AIRLINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! well...yeah, really looks like they are picking up all right???? I hear American Airlines furlolughs may reach 4000 (just in pilots!!) 2 in bankruptcy, 2 more headed there.....20-30% losses in a single day for most airlines.....

sounds like its coming around to me.

I never said that the economy and the stock market have any correlation, if I meant that I would have said "No offense, but the economy sucks because the markets are at 6 month lows, the airlines are screaming,"... But I didn't...

The economy consists more than just the aviation industry pinhead.

I believe he mentioned the stock market and the unemployment rate before he mentioned the aviation industry.

And yet you still found the need to call him a "pinhead". Wow, what a class act. You certainly live up to your user name.

All in all, there is more to the economy than what the stock markets do. Everything does fall together, consumer spending and yes unemployment. It doesn't look good on paper, but I think the so-called experts say that there is light. I personally think the economy doesn't look good right now, and the airline industry is screwed up. The airline industry does play a big role. It is one of the largest in the world, and when the costs are up, and the passenger loads are down, it looks bad.

Falcon Capt,
Please enlighten us all as to why the economy sucks. Give specifics and please comment on our GDP, unemployment, sales of durable goods and the housing sector which are key indicators as to the health of the economy. I hope for the sake of your passengers your aviation knowledge is better than your knowledge the economy.

The economy sucks is my personal opinion, I was stating that I did not correlate the stock market to the economy, which is what you were trying to point out that I sadi, which I didn't.

Not to get into economics, the market, et al, but just an observation.

Last week I was in South Florida. The Signature ramp was overflowing with Gulfstreams. The "other" FBO had it's mix of small, medium, large bizjets, including 2 corporate B727s and a BBJ.

At my home airport on Monday we had 9 G4's, 3 G5's, 2 Challengers, 1 DA900, 1 Global Express and a mix of smaller aircraft.

Yes, times are tough. My 401(k) is a prime example. However, somewhere, someone must be excelling. Only a few companies seems to be shedding their flight departments. For heaven's sake, it came out yesterday that struggling TYCO indeed still has a four plane flight department.

While I don't think we've turned the corner just yet (see news stories concerning Iraq), I do feel that things aren't nearly as bad as some seem to want us to believe. Maybe my glass is half full???

IMHO of course,

I guess if you HAVE a decent job right now, the ECONOMY is OK or not bad.....
If you are out of work, the ECONOMY STINKS.

Sure, most flight departments are running strong (even looking to expand-mine at least) but you cant deny that the boom in bizjet travel is beacuse the terror threats, the nazi TSA, and simply the TERRIBLE service the airlines provide.

While biz aviation is still very strong, the airlines are tanking, and they are a much bigger percentage of this industry (of course) I simply cannot think our Aviation industry is "getting better" when 120,000 layoffs seems not even be the end of the cuts!

AND.....these guys who are out are looking at having to come back to a "restructured" airline with lower pay, chopped pensions, and a fleet of RJ's to fly.....how wonderful....

....does not sound like things are going anywhere near "better" to me.

The sooner it becomes an accepted fact that the stock market and all the worthless analyst's that go with it are not an indication of the economy, the better off we will all be. The ridiculous rise in worthless junk called stock in the 90's has put many people in a bind. One day everyone woke up and realized that their networth was worthless paper.

I think it is time for people to go back to work making an honest living with realistic expectations and ignore the bums on Wall St. Stop giving away good industrial jobs in favor of worthless "clean industry" jobs. And realize that the economy of the 90's aint comin back. There are lots and lots of good productive companies producing good products that are driving the economy along. Unemployment is not considered high at this point. People are still consuming goods and services at an ever increasing rate.

It might help to stop comparing the rise and fall of a few poorly managed companies ie UAL, USAIR, AMERICAN etc.. as an indication of the overall value of the economy. If those companies are destined to disappear than so be it. Of course it does mean that the life of the Major airline pilot is also destined to change forever and not in a good way but there is nothing that can stop it now. That part of airline history is going and it isnt coming back. I say let it happen. Lets get it over with and move on.

And stop paying so much attention to the idiots babbling away on the cable news channels. If you took 100 of them and locked them in a room, you still would not find an original intelligent thought.

On and on ad. nauseum ,there I go ranting again
