Kumar just called with my travel. Commercial to BOM on first leg this time, flying with two DC-10 transition FO's from the class behind us.
Who does Emerates code share with?
Waldo

I'm just curious but I did hear a story from a buddy of mine who ran into a former gemini captain. Not sure how long ago it was or anything but it was about gemini dispatch forgetting to file overflight permits with some nation in africa, it may have been nigeria or kenya. And on the third time when they landed in that country the entire crew was arrested and thrown under house arrest in a hotel for 4 days. After 4 days the crew had still not heard from gemini or had not been allowed to contact dispatch or something to that effect. So after the fourth day they were actually thrown into a kenyan jail or whatever which was filled with urine, crap, rats and nastified food for a day or two. Supposedly the F.O. got sick but they were finally realeased and allowed to return to the u.s. Is there any truth to this story that the company didn't even react until they got thrown into the jail. Just wondering about the validity of the story. I've been wondering since I heard about it.

Isn't great to have an Indian Visa. Emirates, you can use your UAL FF card.

Let me guess, you will be flying with AM and RB...

Wow that is a lot better than the real story. I have talked to the Captain and one of the f/os (there were two) and the loadmaster.
I am not going into specifics, however they were afforded local lawyers provided by the compay and also sort advice from the US Embassy. The Captain was in contact with the company during the majority of the ordeal. A dispatcher did lose his job over it, more of a scapegoat. The dispatch team is overworked and undermanned.

When they were released from jail, the company made them go right to the airport and fly the jet back to the EU. I guess they consider being in jail for 18 hours part of your crew rest:(

quote: Well, it must have been as restful as the hotel in Vatry!

how funny! just stayed in Iquique (Chili) in a hotel that was about the same. Small beds, no a/c, street noise but to top it off (and Vatry didn't have this): an open-air easter mass in the evening using big speakers and next morning a military parade with marching band for some kind of ceremony with even bigger speakers right in front of the hotel door. We couldn't even leave the hotel because the street was barricaded. Of course our rooms were right above this ordeal. Sadly, breakfast sucked compared to Vatry: little food and INSTANT coffee! Never seen a hotel without a coffee maker before .......We left immediately after te parade was over for a real hotel

Stayed in IQQ last year. NICE hotel, bar by the pool overlooking the ocean. 5 minute cab ride to the casino and restaurants. Saw the guys from Centurian there, including one of our old FE's. It must have been the holiday that messed up booking.

Correct about the Disaptch side of the story,

And later this week they will be one more short!
