I have a question for anyone who would like to help me out. What are typical flight time minimums for insurance companies to insure a King Air 90 captain? Assume Part 135 operations. I know Part 135 mins are 1200TT, 500X/C, 100 Night, and 75 instrument. I want to know how much more time than that you'll need to be a captain on a King Air. Thanks to all who help!

Unfortunately there really isn't a single answer on that...it depends on the individual company and their relationship with their insurer. Some are very restrictive, and some allow them to put any trained captain in the airplane, pretty much regardless of time.

Fly safe!

Revision of question

Ok, maybe I revise a bit....does anyone have any examples of King Air 90 captains who they thought had low time? I'm wondering how low some 90 operators are willing to go in their Part 135 ops. You don't have to name any names, but total times, multi, and turbine would be helpful. Thanks

I was flying a B200 at 21 with 1200tt exactly, a couple of hundred multi and turbine time. It was a biatch of a fight with the insurance but it made sure that my boss got the most out of me because it cost him so much.

It all depends on what you're willing to pay for and how much leverage you have with the insuance company

And it didn't bother the passengers that you were popping zits all over the cockpit? ;)

sorry...just HAD to say that!

Fly safe!

Two other factors to consider may be time in type and sim or insurance training. I started flying a Commander 690 at roughly 1300TT, but the insurance (AOPA) wanted training with one of their approved providers and I had to ride with someone who was already on the insurance certificate for 20 hours and ten landings before I could fly single pilot.

actually it did bother the bosses girlfriend. We were the same age. She told my boss she didn't want me flying her anymore. So what did my boss do. Made sure i flew her every trip.

I appreciate the input. My quest will continue.

So how was she? You can tell us.... ;)

She was a pain in the ass. My boss was the owner of the charter company and she was the girlfriend eurotrash of the owner of the plane that was leased back.

I enjoyed making sure that every flight she had with me was the worst flight she ever had. My boss didn't like the fact we were keeping her moving around while the owner cheated on his wife.

I can't wait to have her on my plane again. She'll latch on to another rich man by now. She was starting to gain weight and i did make the comment that she might want to hold on to her current man because she was letting herself go.

The boss loved that one. She wasn't thrilled.
