In the Pool at ACC

Interviewed on Mon. and was told at the end of the day that I was in the pool! I was wondering, how long into training before you find out what base you will get? Thnx

You really won't have much of an idea til done with training, which is usually when you start getting bid sheets sent to you with all the new FO openings. Our company has a fairly steady rate of attrition due to upgrades and FO's leaving for regionals, so there will be positions available. If you do get drafted into a base you don't like, I guarantee you'll have the opportunity to move... base hopping really isn't that uncommon. Congrats on the job, this is a good company to work for. I spent about 2 months in the pool before class.

I went swimming in that pool for about 2 weeks. Good company, interview was fun, but waiting on a sic turbo prop job = not so fun. So i took another job and dried off from the pool. Last info I heard, you not gunna find out a base till the last second.

If I were to end up getting charter, can I live where I want? Also I assume I would be responsible for my own lodging while waiting to get called on a trip?

On your days off (9) you do whatever you want and on your days on they cover lodging and what not except food which you get per diem for.

I recently notified ACC that I wouldn't be attending the April 13th class, so there is an oppening for someone else.

letter

Hate to jump forum, but! I interviewed with acc on the 6th. They said we would get a letter in 10-14 days for a pool. Is this good, bad, or neutral. Do they always tell you on the spot if you get hired, or do some people get hired through phone call or letter? Thanks!!

Can anyone tell me where people who leave ACC end up going? I heard they lose alot of FO's to the regionals. Why would they not stay take the quick upgrade, build turbine PIC and move on to something better than a regional? Or am I missing something?

ACC is a great company but it isn't for everyone. After a year of the 19 on/9 off charter sked or working 12 hour nights on a scheduled run, some people are ready to move on. I like it here but being up during the DAY is hard to beat!

Not sure. If we have it wasn't directly. We have had people go to Polar, Capitol, and Fedex.... the Fedex story involved someone with relatives already there. Also had someone get the E170 at republic. Thats all I've heard in the 8 months I have been here. This company has been around over 15 years, I'm sure in the past other things have taken shape.

I have seen enough friends go through the SJS phase and are now either in danger of loosing thier job, or are going to be sitting in the right seat for 5+ years. Funny how you don't see all the same people talking on the cargo board about the downward spiral like you do in the regional forum.

I was just curious as to the progression at ACC. Seems like if your goal was to sit in the right seat of an RJ you would skip ACC put your time in as a CFI and go from there.

As far as progression here you probably already know that upgrades are usually within a year.

Leaving from here, even many captains I know of get on with regionals. This is a good place to work at but it can be hard to sell shorts time, being that we fly low and slow, and are not pressurized. Most majors want to see 121 time to some extent.. depends on who you ask and where they arem but often times you will need 121 time to get to any major. That is where the regionals come in, at least we leave here with time that can get us into the *good* places (CHQ, ASA, Air Wisky, etc) that pay a little better and have work rules.

If you're interested in more of a career on the 135 side it this is a pretty good place to be. I am under the impression that time gained here is pretty valuable in the 135 world.

I hope I don't sound down on the company or anything, I like it here. Just realize that you will probably need at least 1 or 2 other jobs after ACC to get to FedEx!

Yup...500 hours of Shorts time just doesn't match up with 500 hours of KA time...finding that out. I even tried telling them "the engines are practically the same...and it's a two-pilot crew...did I tell you I did the Edwards Air Force Base CRM course last year??"..still doesn't work...
