In the name of security: Meigs Field

It bothered us when we all had to be fingerprinted, but we got over it.

It bothered us when we had to take our shoes and belts off to go to work, but we got over it.

It bothered us to be practically strip-searched by natives of the same lands that spawned the 9/11 attackers, but we got over it.

It bothered us to be told that we could be trusted with an axe, a flare gun, and thousands of pounds of kerosene, but not a pen knife...but we got over it.

It bothered us to see great-grandmothers and great-grandchildren being treated like criminals, but we got over it.

Now, it bothers us that Meigs Field was murdered in the dead of night "in the interest of security."

Ladies and gentlemen, how much more are we going to let the governments and bureaucracies of this nation do to us before we finally say no?

I've been re-reading Ernest Gann (Fate is the Hunter) and Robert Serling (The Left Seat) this week, and a thought occured to me: the airline pilots of the thirties, forties, and fifties simply would not have put up with the TSA's B.S. Period. They would have shut down every airline in the country until management and the government were forced to implement logical airport security. (You could make a lot of improvements if all you used was Leo Mullin's bonus.)

Murdering Meigs Field while DAL, HOB, DCA continue to operate makes no more sense than telling me I can't carry nail clippers to work.

DEMAND REAL SECURITY NOW!

amen my brother. The pilots of today have become more worried about what is there for them than what is right for the career and the nation. I'm all for a national strike to put the national economy in perspective for Bush. Who paid the price for the reorganization of the airline industry: the blue collar worker. If anyone expected the CEO's and stockholders to do anything but b*tt F**k these people for their required cost savings then they are delusional. We are just setting a precedence that these people when in a bind can come to us to save their ass. There is a reason plumbers charge $75/hour. If you don't then your house smells of sh*t and it doesn't help to call another plumber because they will then charge more. Well if we don't fly passenger a from a to b then they sit in sh*tinholes like newark and Gary all winter. If more people are pushed towards the shame train because of this, then it ends up being a win win for us.
