"I would worry about a company that won't invest a dime into the program unless DHL re-imburses the expense."

Boog the reality is, we are. We know Hete can use investor money to invest in infrastructure without it coming out of his pocket. Daz knows it comes right out of his. There are multiple why a manhis own wouldn't want to invest in his own company, but rest assured, one of em is probably that he doesn't trust DHL's word. Can't fault him for that. Neither do I.

Bottom line is, Daz won't invest any of his own money, profit into providing more than DHL asked for without guarantees from DHL. How that'll play out is of concern. Nearly two years ago we lost Brussels to Kallitta. Overnight. Because they practically gave away the work. Regradless of one's opinion on the Hoot, the integration, C containers, ABX loaders, etc., ABX didn't have anything to do with that loss. DHL is our problem. Period.

yea, they're "taking notes"......such as filling DC9's with ground freight to make it appear they are carrying more priority freight, double billing and hiding freight in warehouses in ILN, a 2500% increase (that's not a typo) in internal theft since the consolidation, a constant and huge turnover of ground personel working the sort, nights when the weather goes bad over half the work force (ramp and sort) not showing up for work, etc, etc,etc.................

It really doesn't make sense to send a truck to place you fly to for priorty freight until the priorty freight fills the airplane.

All of the employees who showed for work on the various nights of snow & ice in the past few weeks were literally breaking the law when the level 3 emergency was in effect. It give the cops the right to arrest you and confiscate/impound your vehicle.

I really have no answer to your allegation on the interal theft other to express my profound disbelief.

Can someone please sort the truth and BS from this? I am a frequent DHL customer and the only of the above accusations I have noticed is my ground shipments being overnighted. For that, I would like to thank ABX for placing my boxes on planes when there is space available.

The short answer

For reasons that have been explored in various threads there is little love lost between the ABX and Astar pilot groups. This leads to a lot of rumor, innuendo, invective and hyperbole being posted here.

you need to have your tin foil hat checked for leaks

This is one problem I don't think you can blame entirely on Dasburg. He's a businessman...he'll give DHL whatever they want, provided they're willing to pay for it.

The question of why Airways wasn't Cat II was raised in the early 90's. At the time, their excuse was that DHL didn't want to bear the cost of certifying and maintaining their aircraft to the higher standard. They felt that at best, Cat II certification would be of value to less than 1% of their operations.

I guess nobody gave any consideration to the true cost of being only 99% reliable.

that may be true to DHL operations in America prior to the purchase of Airborne. Airborne being an express carrier had customers who depend on and demand express service. If DHL and/or Astar do nothing to give the DHL/Airborne customer the service they are looking for they will leave (and many have) for UPS and FedEx.

If your (Astar) owners do not provide the equipment to provide the service DHL customers demand, do not act surprised when the axe falls across the neck. And if/when it does, do not blame ABX. They are just providing the service they always have. WAY WAY before DHL came to gum the works up.

"2500% increase in theft since the consolidation." mmm, what has changed since the consolidation? Astar people and a few DHL folks have come to ILN. You do the math then, who would be logically responsible for the increase? Astar and DHL.

This has become the most rediculous friggin thread. For the last time....

If/when DHL or Daz or whoever puts CAT II/III in the antiques we fly or replaces them with more modern equip. We'll fly it and DHL will reap the benies. If they don't, we won't simply as that. Concerned, yes...have been for as long as any of us have been here. Who makes that call....DHL.

Obviously, if CAT II/III aircraft were more important to DHL than A-containers , there wouldn't have been all those ABX 9's and 8's parked. Who made that call.....DHL.

Guy's(and girls, can't offend Ole Miss), to recap.....The common thread for the ills here isn't AStar OR ABX.....not really, it's DHL. The only exception to that by some here would be the repective opinions on both sides regrading the two pilot goups positions on scope, but day to day, the ills that vex you are not from the other side's group of pilots. This turned quickly into a "mine's bigger than your's" thread. It ought to be a "weve both got it stuck in the zipper" thread. (No offence inteded laidies.)

Actually I think some of the choices are due partly to the "old boy network" of ex "Airways" people who now work for DHL. Also, as I understand it your ACMI is more expensive the less you fly. For some this would no doubt be justification for keeping your aircraft flying while parking the 9's. The fact this means a potential loss of service and loss of customers when the service doesn't meet their expectations or the company promises doesn't seem to bother the folks at DHL making those decisions. In the end it's a self resolving problem. We can only hope someone in a position to do something about it at DHL makes it clear that this sort of activity is no longer acceptable.

I'm not holding my breath.
