I have a couple of questions for you Astar and ABX folks. I was flying yesterday and heard DAY approach holding all the inbound DHL freight/aircraft. It seems like some of the planes were landing (or beginning the ILS approach) last night (02-20) and many were unable to land or started the approach but executed missed approaches. I thought both airlines were now Cat II certified. Was it below Cat II lasts night? How does the freight get sorted if all the airplanes cannot reach ILN?

I was flying all night last night and morning. The fog for most of the night was thick but rvr kept changing from cat I to Cat II minimums . Astar is not Cat II yet (a work still in progress) so some flights either held and attempted approaches or just diverted elsewhere. At around 6am, when my plane finally got loaded and we were about to push the rvr on both runways took a dump to below 6,6,6. for the next 4-5 hours the field was CAT III landing ,no departures at all and no landings for non catIII. For awhile they reported rvr at 100,100,100. That combined with the freezing fog, made for a long long night....

DHL is on a big kick to save money. Just think of all the money Astar saved them tonight!!

we had to divert a couple tonight too...just not the whole fleet

And we all know why. So what? We were the DHL airline, and they didn't want to pay for a CAT II fleet. Now we're not the DHL airline, we move to the Hoot, (which is apparently a fog magnet) and now they're paying for us to go to CAT II. Go figure.

Yeah, it's just the Hoot that's a fog magnet.

As I was inbound tonight I also dialed in the CVG and DAY atis. CVG was reporting 1000 across the board and DAY was actually calling it zero.

Lemme guess, CVG never had fog when ya'll operated down there???

Seriously, not a single Astar plane into ILN tonight, whats up with that? Did they just not even want to try?

No, they won't be screaming. They're the ones who made the choice to keep us CAT I till now. It doesn't count against our on time performance at all. Strange? You bet. But they are the ones that wrote our ACMI agreement.
