I wonder if all these 'right' supporting pilots support labor unions? ...very socialistic.
Good question.
Labor unions have a place in some industries, and are a good tool to provide balance to the labor management equation. Not long ago, the Supreme court validated the idea that union members can legally withold the portion of their dues that unions use for purely political purposes. This is good news if you are a conservative, and don't wish to have your dues supporting a candidate whose political views you find objectionable.
Under this ruling, which came about under the situation I just described, "financial core" status is recognized by the union, which lowers your dues to the "financial core" amount the union needs to provide representation. I have some links I will post later, when I am back at my home.
Although you can provide union member service to your employer, the union (at least the SAG and AFTRA unions) sees you as a (get this) "dues paying non-member" who cannot come to meetings or vote, and cannot serve as an officer of the union. No doubt, this will be challenged as this ruling changes the face of unions everywhere.
There are several ideas we have in America that border on socialism. Some, like unions, are relatively benign. Eventually, only the government unions will remain in their current form.
