Jim Smyth,

I admire your patriotism but unfortunately, in this day and age, most people/companies don't make their purchases based on whether or not it's built in the U.S. They look at getting the most for the cheapest.

And let's not kid ourselves, some American products just don't stand up to foreign counterparts. In that case people buy foreign...

...sad but true

[Can we hear from someone who has actually flown Airbus and Boeing and why they like or dislike either?

Seems like Airbus is doing pretty good business and selling more aircraft than Boeing so they must be doing something right.........right?[/QUOTE]

For the record I've never flown an airplane that I did not like! I especially liked the Convair 340/440, the B-727 and the A-320. The DC-9 was great, with low noise levels in the cockpit but the cockpit seats were uncomfortable for a long duty day. The Convair 580 was a great performer but stiff on the controls and had high cockpit noise levels. The DC-3 was fun but ice was a problem and heavy rain came into the cockpit. The CV340/440 was light on the controls and the quietest piston airplane I ever flew. You could converse in normal voice levels on take-off. The 727 was the easiest job I ever had, the captain doesn't do anything and the F/O helps him. <bg> The A-320 had a higher workload than the 72 but it paid more. <vbg> I hope that helps.

Hmmmm, quick to bash Airbus. Have any of you ever flown an Airbus? If you haven't, then how do you know you don't like them?

Just like the corporate-only guys bashing on how terrible the -121 business is doing. Most of them never been there but they bash it all the same.

Just like the guys who fly for a small airplane operator and bash AA, DAL, UAL, CAL, NWA, and say why would they want to be a junior F/O or S/O when they could be a Senior Capt on a Jetstream.

I've flown them both for many years and like them both for different reasons. The Boeing is more like really flying a plane and the "bus" is more fun, after you get used to it and figure it out, which takes a year or two. On the bus there are a list of "Gotchas" that you have to keep in mind and avoid. If you can do that, then it's just another airplane and quite easy to fly. The bus would probably do a better job in getting you out of a severe windshear situation. I've been off it for two years while on furlough, but have been blessed with an opportunity to get back on it again next month. Time to blow the dust off the old notes.
