If you want to get to the majors as fast as you can get the Turbine PIC ASAP as well as total time up. However one way to look at it is like this. With your time now it will be 5 years of building time just to get your total time up. Do you really want to sit at GLA for 5 years. Sometimes you have to live life a little in the quest for the prize.

My opinion is go to a place that if/when the music stops you don't mind working at without cutting your own throat. My other opinion which probably has little value to you is to go do something else. Be successful...don't be a pilot. :)
I heard that! There's more to life than defaulting on loans and living in an apartment with 8 people.

It all depends on what you want. Advice is great but only you know what will work for you. I got an offer for GLA and XJET, i choose XJET. I am very happy with my decision. GLA i would for sure be left seat sooner but i live in houston and i am now based in houston. Thats reason one. Reason two is i have a wife and 3 month old son and there is no way to survive in Denver with a family on GLA pay. And finally XJET is somewhere i wouldnt mind working at for a while, better pay and good schedules. So my point is only you can make those type of decisions. If you are single and have no worries, by all means go to GLA and shoot for the PIC time. Good luck and keep working hard. Just remember alot of times it comes down to QOL. Quality of Life.

Go to GLA

I worked at lakes and hated 2 of the 5 chief pilots---you will never work somewhere and more vehemently hate upper management.

But you will never love working with a pilot group more. Once you become capt you can live on the money--but not save anything....

Get 1500 -2000 PIC and then go and get a better job.

In my opinion you will have the quickest route to interviewing with a major.

Sure I would rather have sat in an Rj for longer than a 1900--but we did not get into this industry with either as the goal ---- I also know some RJ fo's making 35K a year with flowbacks keeping them in the right seat with no interview anywher in sight----sur the occasional Rj FO gets hired somewhere---But that is much More rare than a GLA 1900 Capt Who will be hired anywhere but Jetblue.

The Interviewers at America West said it all to me at my cactus interview
"We LOVE hiring you GLA pilots because you all have good attititudes and do well in training"

Curious to know, why wouldnt jet blue hire a lakes person? I appreciate everyones input. This board feels more....encouraging to me than the others. Thanks again!

Jet Blue requires pic time over 20k, The 1900 is less than that. You could still go to the EMB-120 after the 1900 and get the time to go to Jet Blue if you wanted. The last award for EMB captains here at lakes is around the 4 year mark. (Maybe a little less)

No it is not a growing trend-- just jet blue---I'm telling most other carriers love Lakers---Including Southwest and Fedex

Ok, last question. How does a person from Michigan get a resume walked in since nobody out here flys for lakes. ha! Thanks again everyone!

in the past 4-5 months GLA and GIA captains have been hired or interviewed at Fedex, Southwest, Airtran, Kalitta, Arrow, Skywest, TSA, PSA, America West, and Continetal just to name a few. PIC turbine is ok if you would like one of these jobs.
