Huge ASA announcement at 4PM 12/7/07

Wow! Just got off the phone with a pal in ATL. You guys are gonna be pissed. Delta and ASA supposed to have an announcement at 4pm today (Friday).
As an aside, I thought corporations usually wait until after the stocket market closes to make large announcements on a Friday? Does the NYSE close at 4pm or 5pm EST?

Markets close at 4 pm ET. It's an old axiom that you announce bad news after market close on Friday in hopes investors won't notice or will forget about in by the time markets open on Monday. Of course, that's not always the case....
