I stopped a long time ago...after I had about 10 little black books full and nothing in the logbook for 2 years. I figure if I need to ever recreate I will just say old log book destroyed in fire totals brought forward.
 
Well technically you have to maintain records of your currency, don't you? What if the FAA wants to make sure that you're landing current, for example, can you prove you are?
 
I got sooooo far behind in my LogBook, mainly because at Piedmont over that last 3 years I flew over 950hrs each year.
So I started doing monthly entries in my LogBook. This made it sooo much easier. Then I have all of my Redbooks labels with the months and years. If there is any question I just flip open my redbook, and I go directly to that day, or that month of flying.

I also use the monthly system. It is sooooo much easier. I was a little concerned about it when I interviewed at FedEx, but they never said a word about it. Then again I didn't get hired so take that for what its worth :P

You've got 10 black books full of chick's numbers? What's your secret? Are you using any sort of line that let's them know you're a pilot?!
 
I went electronic a year or so ago and it's great. No more little paper books, just my Palm hand held. It Hotsyncs with my home computer and no more writing.

Yeah, that's it Buzz Aldrin...just lie.

And some people wonder why they can't leave the feeders.
 
I've seen a few job postings where they wanted to see copies of the last X# of your logbook pages. With the instability of the industry increasing one's chances of being in the "hunt" again, keeping the logbook up to date might be a good idea...just part of the organ-grinder's monkey dance.

How did being a lazy ass about a logbook become a detrement to someone's "good moral character???" If the FAA has a question about currency, tell them to call the airline...we're not private pilots

last interview I went to... put my logbook on the table, they put it aside and said they didnt need to see it.

whats the monthly way of doing it...curious because it sounds a lot more practical

after the ATP whats the bid deal about logging every flight by hand. who the hell cares?

It wasn't being a lazy ass it was being a liar he was talking about.
 
If you don't log your hours then your just plain lazy. How hard is it to throw in a months worth of flying while watching a game? Takes an hour. Dont get me started on the guys who just carry around their jepp revisions.

Only 8 post's before the first name calling....not bad for Flightinfo....of course I know of a lot of guys that do not log there time anymore. and if Morals had anything to do with getting an ATP all pilots would make a million dollars a year cause there would not be very many.
 
Red Crew Logs for the details, supplemented by a monthly in the Master Log. Works good, lasts long time. Hired numerous times with this system.
 
Keep in mind that I am still climbing the food chain ladder but I log after every single flight. I just do it along with my other paperwork. This way I can remember how much actual, night etc...... I had on that flight. It's just habit for me now. Of course, I am just a lonely Feeder freight guy.
 
Logging time

Although I'm still at a feeder, I just log monthly.

Ex: 2006...Oct...ATR...121...PIC...78.43hr

I did an interview with SWA awhile back, interviewer picks up my book starts to calculate some numbers, notices the last few years were monthly and states " Oh good, this goes monthly" Didn't get the job. Who knows why.

I think because I was wearing need pads, and nobody got the joke....only kiding....

No you're not!!!!:laugh: It cost me the job also.
 
ALSO because I can't spell "need" pads or "kiding" or anything else for that matter... I was not hired to write (right) just fly the plane (plain) as safelly as possable..... I probably screwed up the application paperwork also..... Im still loveable though...

I haven't updated my master logbook in a year. One of these days I'm going to get caught up.
 
what are these "little red" and "little black" logbooks that everyone is talking about? Got a link?
 
I still do my leg by leg.. why I don't know... more just being anal and liking my logbook to look as pefect as possible. It gets tiring though after 3700 or so hours. Now that I'm back on reserve this month I guess it will be easier to keep up, haha.
 
You never know when your going to need it. Guys in my crashpad are killing themselves to update their logbooks for JB interviews. Two of these guys have 80's DOH with US Air and are now at MDA and haven't touched their logbooks since they were on the F-28 during the PDT merger. Even doing it month by month from a red book takes awhile when you have 15+ years of time to catch up on. After seeing these guys scramble to update a logbook when they could be using the time to prep for the interview I'd recommend keeping it updated, like I said, you never know.
 
Thanks for the link. I had never heard of those little books either. I still go leg by leg by leg.... you get the point!!!
