Info for Laughlin:
Single folks...
UOQ (Unaccompanied Officer's Quarters, aka: dorms)
What is it? Think studio apartment. Bed, desk, dresser, TV cabinet, small kitchen with stove, microwave, mini breakfast bar, and fridge. W&D located downstairs in breezeways.
Things that cost extra: TV, Internet (dial-up only in dorms... high speed in library), phone.
Wait time: Usually, not more than 3 weeks after showing up. I only waited a week which seems to be the running average.
Duplex Housing (for 2 single officers)
What is it? 2BR house. No furniture. No carpet (all linoleum). Kitchen comes with major appliances. W&D hook-ups.
Things that cost extra: Same as above.
Wait time: Some folks have been told they will have duplexes some time in June. Wait times CAN be very long which is a huge disadvantage.
Married folks:
Some people have been told they have to live off-base, but this is rare and can be worked around.
Don't know much about the married housing. I haven't heard anything negative. I think it's about the same as duplex housing except bigger.
Don't expect much. All the housing down here is old, but it's comfortable and you'll only be here a year (unless you FAIP... in that case, may God have mercy on your soul).
Lata!
