Highest altimeter setting you've ever seen?

Whats the highest altimeter setting anyone has been given or flown with before?

While checking the weather this morning for a trip, I noticed the local altimeter was 30.58. I've never seen it that high before, so it got me wondering!

Yesterday, Nov 14., it was 30.75 over most of Md. and parts of Va.

Highest I ever saw was 30.96 or 30.94, one of those two. Wintertime in NY, probably winter of 99/00.

Boy, this ought to stir the pot...it has been over 31.00 here in the midwest a few times in the last 30 years or so and low altitude ATC is shutdown when it is that high. I'll let you find the reference as to why that is so...have at it, guys and girls.

Higher then 31.00 would mean a NOTAM would be issued to restrict IFR flights??? Am I close??? Also... is it possible to set your Altimiter for pressures higher than 31.00???? I didn't think the "standard" Altimeter went that high... (saying that... never tried).

Pretty close...they stopped all traffic, including VFR, for about 24 hours 'till the High moved on. Very unusual until 9/11, that topped it. <g> And yes it was by NOTAM.

www.lifeisabeach.us[/QUOTE]31.00 is the top of the scale for most altimeters. One of the reasons for stopping everything is the non-standard pressure lapse rate in such a cold dense airmass. Standard quadrangle altitude separation would be meaningless and obstructon clearance would suffer. There are ways around that but not usually used in the lower 48.

ive seen 30.67 and a low of 29.03 in lga 2 yrs ago xmas eve....during a noreaster.....that was a fun night...1800 rvr blowing snow amd 40 mph winds....they shut the airport down at 830 at night.....

Highest 30.95 a few years ago. This thread got me thinking about lower than standard altimeter settings and non-availability of the lower flight-levels. Anyone know off the top of their head, at what alt setting that happens?
