Ok, this has probaly been asked before but since I don't read the threads for the majors I don't know.
But I went to a job fair in PHX in Feb, and talked to SWA guys. I have over a thousand PIC turbine, no type in the 737. The guy(don't remember his name) told me that my times looked good. But you need the 737 type and we are really looking for guys with 1600 to 1800 PIC. That stinks, because I really don't want to sit in the 1900 for one more second, let alone 600 or so hours.
Anythoughts, comments, sugestions?
Oh a friend of mine got the type, hasn't heard sh*t.

I'm not a SWA guy but here's my story: 5500TT, 3500PIC (mil), no type.

.......and no call. Keep flying and good luck.

The force is strong in you. Obi Won says...... fly the 1900 until you recieve the call.

Dude,

its all supply and demand. I feel your pain, but if we have literally thousands of apps on file with more hours than you, then you have to figure where you stack up isn't near the top. Getting that type, though, puts you MUCH higher in the stack still I believe. It would if I was in the People Department. Unless you have some naked pictures of Herb, with an animal, you need to fatten your resume, legitimately. More B1900 PIC, a 737 Type, or both. Good luck.

hyepilot,

SWA/FO is correct in my opinion. While having slightly over 1000 hrs does meet the minimum SWA is looking for in the current environment (lots of pilots with more PIC experience) the "competitive numbers" that SWA has had the tendancy to use is as stated, around the 1800ish number.

As for the type, while it doesn't guarantee a phone call (many will attest to that) it does put you in a category that "if" you get the PIC closer to what the competitive mins are & you don't have the type, you have a very small chance (some would say no chance but I never say never) of getting the call. When you do reach the magical PIC number that SWA is looking for & you have a type, you at least at that point have done everything you can to make SWA look at you.

Getting more PIC is not necessarily in your control.....getting a type is. You have to be the judge of getting it now vs. later when you are closer to the PIC time that appears to be some sort of threshold for SWA (again there are many with more PIC, a few with slightly less)....it is definitely an economic question but also one that sets you apart in terms of those who are making the committment in doing what it takes to get to SWA. Others will have done exactly what I've described, been interviewed & turned down....doesn't mean they weren't good guys & would have helped SWA out but at least they dressed themselves up as nice as they could to get invited to the dance vs. sitting on the sideline & waiting for the rules to change to fit their dresscode.

Good luck & thanks for your interest in SWA. SWA has hired many 1900 drivers so you'll be in good company if the chance comes your way.

It's probably the coolest flying you will ever do. There are so many people I know, myself included, that used to fly a small turboprop and miss it. I know where you are coming from but enjoy it while you can because once you get on with SWA, you may miss it.

By the way.....GOOD LUCK!

Dont miss the metro at all.

12000+ hrs, 8000+ hrs turbine PIC, multiple type ratings and still no call from SWA. What's up with that? Oh yeah, I've never applied to SWA. Maybe that's why they haven't called yet!

Why would you? Looks like you have a nice FedEx career.

Yes I do have a nice career here. I was trying to make some sarcastic response to some pilots that think that they should get hired soley because they have more flight time than someone else. Companies make their own qualifications and will hire whoever they darn well please.

Yeah, like Fed Ex didn't like me....but SWA did!

Thank you.

Thanks for all the words of encouragement and the advice. When I wrote that I didn't want to spend another second in the 1900, I was cranky haveing gotten out of a warm bed.
There are some things that I do like about the 1900, I guess that the only complaint would be with our schedules, but then that's the nature of the beast when working for a regional airline.
Anyways thanks again.
