I am 23 and trying to decide whether I should get a degree at Embry Riddle and seek a job a Skywest or continue as a manager at In and out Burger. Skywest has the best bases out west here but so does the IN and Out Burger. If I took the $150-200,000 dollars I plan on spending on my degree and invested it wisely....why..... I would retire a multimillionare. If I went to Skywest I would retire.....well.......WITH NOTHING. But, I could walk around the airport and look cool. Currently I make more than the most senior captains at Skywest but I would rather say: "Ladies and and Gentlemen, This is your captain....." than "Welcome to In and Burger, Can I take your order please....." What should I do?

I really do make more money than a Skywest pilot will ever make, just check out the link below and PM me if you want a rec. But, I love to fly so maybe I should take the hit.

Stay at In-n-Out Burger. You've got those cool bumper stickers that if you cut off the B and the R make it read : "In-in-Out urge"
Can I have one for my flight bag?

Forget both Skywest and In-n-out burger.... You should strive for a better job at one of the fine union airlines where life is good and you can make buckets of money...... May I suggest Mesa, Pinnacle, or TranStates.......

Good luck.....;)

What's the employee discount at In-and-Out? You'll certainly eat better there than at most airports.

If you're happy making lunch go with In n Out. If you dream of sleeping in exotic locales like Fargo and Fayetteville then go to SkyWest. You don't need to waste money at Embry-Riddle though. And plenty of senior SkyWest pilots make more than your link quoted, although an owner of a fast food place can make mega bucks. Plenty of McDonalds millionaires.

Tool..

Another important point not to be overlooked:

-Do you consider yourself a tool?

If you are not a tool, and wish to remain that way, stay the hell away from riddle.

If have a hot burning desire to be the biggest toolbasket you can be, sign right up!

If you have doubt, check this out- I thought it was a prank at first, but have since decided these idiots actually think they are cool......

Are you allowed to wear an iPod and backpack at In-N-Out? Are the hats mandatory? They'd cover the frosted tips and gel wouldn't be needed.

Tough choice, good luck

You have got to be sh$$ting me???

Dude, there is a reason people get into this business, and it really isn't about the pay any longer. If money is your goal, you are barking up the wrong tree.

If you enjoy working irregular hours, having more than 2 days off a week, flying, and travel, the choice is simple. BTW, at your age, you might consider joining the military, serving your country, having Uncle Sam pay for your flight training, and then pursuing an airline career. Just a thought?

Good luck.

Dude,

I say In-N-Out all the way... You probably get free crew meals and you've already reached the pinnacle of your profession at 23. What more could you want???

Thanks for the laugh. i really enjoyed this one. I second the motion for best post of the day. I also find it funny some don't get it.

There was a captain at our company that upon his first visit to In-and-Out was told by his crew to order his "doggie-style". I don't think he found it very funny after the fact.

if you sissy @ss dick holes have never worked a real bull $hit job, you'd be smart enough to realize that $100,000 a year isn't everything. I'd rather make $24,000 the rest of my life flying, then to ever go back to real jobs...even for $100,000 to start managing a fast food joint/real estate/small business office/school/.

I swear....the number of people in the industry that have to idea what it's like to have 3 bosses over your shoulder...daily reports...phone calls at home asking for more work...office politics..etc..drives me crazy.

You want real misery..just wait until your first furlough. Good luck finding a job that even comes close to airline life. You'll find yourself wishing to complain about crew meals and commuting.

oh, and BTW. Even $100,000 and year salary in my state only brings home about $5,700 a month after tax for a single guy. Thats equal to $73 bucks a flight hour plus per diem at an 87 hour month.

I've never worked an office job and have never had to deal with "office politics". I made the choice to fly for a living. For the record, does that make me a sissy @ss dick hole?

No it doesn't. It would if you complain about the pay you receive after you applied and interviewed for a position and were aware of the pay before hand.

if you had no idea have tough and horrible the typical job is and took for granted the good things this job offers, that would also help you become a dick hole.

Interestingly enough, I hear they are currently building an In-N-Out in SGU and that it should be open in April.

Amen...I could be making alot more in my previous job...but I'd also be contemplating slitting my wrists every night when I got home...and a drug addict (as opposed to the alcoholic I am today).

Ahhh, somebody doing this for the LOVE of the job and not to earn a cotton pickin living. Excuse those of us who would actually like to receive appropriate compensation for the responsibility we undertake each day we come to work. Not to mention all the hoops we have to continually jump through to keep this job. Your attitude does us an injustice. Just because you are happy to be paid similarly to an uneducated laborer type, doesn't mean the rest of us do.

Please cut this rational crap, pipejockey. Walking around terminal B with a hat on and sweet uniforms with stripes more than makes up for any substandard wages and quality of life sacrafices we make. And microphones, we get to talk into microphones!!!

;)

He could work as an office puke at SKYW in the OCC here in SGU during the day, and work the glorious fry-cutter at the brand-spankin'-new In-N-Out at night. Its a win-win.

Have you considered changing careers and going to work at someplace like Abercrombie & Fitch or Express. They encourage you to spike your hair there and think of all the ladies that shop in those places.

You better hope that In-N-Out has a union other wise you're a F'n SCAB!!!!

I thought that if he went to Go[at]Burger that he would be a scab - doing the same job for substandard pay. But not a true scab since at GoatBurger there is no strike.

Can you accrue seniority at the in and out; can u get free food at Whataburger as a professional courtesy?

My favorite response I've heard to all the complaining: If you think the grass is greener on the other side by all means jump.
