"Now, once you are interviewed I would seek out anyone you know here and butter them up with everything available."

The meaning is exactly as stated. If you have any friends who work for UPS ask them for any help possible. Take them out to dinner, etc. Best wishes.

heavyjetpilot -<< You are a UPS Capt and would allow some Embraer FO to pick up your Denny's tab for a rec? WTF over?>>

I guess with a quote like this I can see why you are still a Embraer F/O, but never the less you completely misunderstood my point. Currently UPS has over 8000 resumes on file. You can imagine how many more will be received now that hiring has been announced. Don't you think it would be wise to put forth a little effort to ensure your resume is put to the top if possible. In the 15+ years at UPS I have gotten 4 guys hired. Bad odds for my close friends but that's all that made it through. Not one ever bought me that meal they promised once they were hired and you know what it doesn't really matter. I am just glad they realized their dream just like I did.
Now as for the Denny's tab. I make it a rule for me as Captain to buy all the first meals no matter where we eat and usually all others. If there is ever a probation pilot around it's always compted. They struggle enough without wasting money for a dinner. So mister in the future be careful who you bash on this chat room sitting behind a keyboard. It might just be the fellow who buys your next round. Best wishes and thanks for my next jumpseat. It's always appreciated.
Cheers,
A-300 Capt.

REMEMBER ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING

I think what the Capt is saying is to simply say "THANKS" to whoever gives you a rec. I had 2 letters when I was hired and I sent each person a nice gift with a thank you card and still keep in touch them. On the other hand, I gave a rec and that person was also hired. Here's the difference:

Before rec=Best of friends, would sell his mom and send me the money
After rec and class date=Never heard from again

Obviously common and professional courtesy applies.

On the subject of first year pay, bottom line it s#ks. Eveyone here knows that and without question they take good care of the probation guys. (at least that was my experience) I plumbed on the whale and typically on 10-12 day pac rim trip I would spend about $100 but would eat and drink like a king.

I'm still buying drinks for my friend who helped me out. He wouldn't let me pick up the tab for drinks or a nice dinner when I was on probation, but I still made the offer anyway. After probation, he let me and I had and still have no problem saying thank-you to this day. HeavyJet was right, ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING.

Furloughed

What is UPS stance on hiring furloughees?
Fed Ex says no...unless it's USAir - got this from a FedEx Capt I work in the reserves with.

UPS has hired many furloughees in the past. Delta, American and USAir. No requirement to give up a seniority number. Lots of them left to go back when they were recalled. I guess UPS was being nice. I hope this helps.

well, im sure gouge is somewhere floating around or will be soon. First round of interviews started today. Saw a few blue suit/red tie guys waiting around today at the training center.

Good luck to everyone ..... A300 is the current word on sim. Minimal automation.

Hello All,

To put in my two cents. I went to three Air Inc. fairs to follow the UPS Team about 3 years ago. They loved the resume(as I was told each time), but told me that one LOR from a senior pilot was not enough. That I need many LORs. Now with 75/76 time under my belt (current 75/76 and alot of international time as well) I am hoping for a shot at the interview. So to the brown tails on this board what do you think my chance for an interview is?

Have a nice day.

The last Air Inc I went to, the UPS rep told me that I had a good resume also.. :D
BUT i needed "someone to root me on." I took that to mean at least one. But that was pre 9-11 so I'll go with my one with some prior UPS employment history and think positive thoughts and keep trying. I am sure it is a scramble by thousands for the few 100 or more available. Good luck. :D
BTW, does anyone know if UPS will be in attendance to the upcoming AIR INC. seminars?
