I was reading about that earlier today. Interesting stuff! Funny that they are just now getting serious about winglets for a plane that has been around for that long.

I have flown the X from SEA to PHKO for NJA a few times. Speed must be brought down to .82 - .84 so there is no wet footprint, but it will do it. At some points in the winter when the winds go much over 100 knots on the nose, you cant get there without a wet footprint, and at least at NJA, that means you dont go.

As a matter of fact, even from SFO, there is no way to go Max Cruise and have a dry footprint. If anyone says they have done it, they are ignorant to what a dry footprint is. PM me it you have any questions.

The wet footprint issue in the X is due to pressurization issues. A general rule I use is if you have winds 100+ at altitude and 50 at 15k, you can make it dry but you land nearly dry (it is an emergency, so I'll consider that acceptable). That's leaving with eight pax, lots of bags, 12200lbs of fuel, 36,100lb take off. Decrease people/bags, add 800lbs of fuel and your that much better off. That is the worst case scenario that I've found in the X. You can't go out there at max cruise and not have a wet footprint though.

Can't beat it for trip times. I've make PHOG-KSBP in 3hr 50min. Personal record.
