Peter Arnett, a newsman for CNN in the first gulf war, now for national geographic and NBC. The only newsman left in Baghdad, on Iraqi tv is criticizing U.S., supporting the Iraqis, saying U.S. warplan was a failure, and that his reports on the resolve of the Iraqis was helping build anti-bush and anti-war support in the U.S.

That out-spoken liberal senator from New York said on Fox that "he was giving aid and comfort to the enemy."

Sent this simple email to NBC-

"Until you sever ties with Peter Arnett, there will be no more NBC programming in this household."

Thanks fellow Texan:

I will surely let NBC know how I feel about this. I am tired of hearing about these reporters. If he wants to stay in Baghdad and be a human shield, I am all for it. Lets just see how much he has to say after we drop the MOAB on his sorry A$$.

SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY - Peter Arnett

Here is a link to the story as it is hard to find on the net (especially on nbc related sites - go figure) http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,82656,00.html

This is very disappointing that this jerk is PRAISING Sadam's military and government for letting him broadcast from Baghdad. He is basically patting himself on the back for his great "Journalism" from Baghdad. Fuk that, he should be thanking the Coalition men and women that are dying instead he is thanking the man who gives medals to his military for killing Americans. I will be sending my email to NBC as well and I will no longer watch any NBC or MSNBC programs. I am now a dedicated FOX NEWS watcher. And as far as Arnett he better stay in his new home - The soon to be liberated Iraq....

The New York Senator's comments weren't very liberal tonight towards Arnett....

Isn't he the one who did the "Tailwind story" about we had use chemical weapons in Laos to kill defectors - and later was proven to be a complete fabrication?

I don't know if he felt like he'd better butter up the Iraqis, since they were standing around him with guns. I can't believe he would make such a careless remark.

Those Iraqis who see it on TV, both military and civilian, may see hope in their futile fight now. Hundreds or even thousands of additional Iraqis are going to die needlessly as a direct result of Mr. Arnett's comments.

Appalling.

This is a new age. When have we ever had an invitation to have a live intel feed from inside an enemy stronghold? Today, we have one.

We have had some very heroic POW's who made very slanderous "confessions" and remarks. That didn't make them any less heroic. In several cases, they still passed on valueable intel that was useful. The rhetoric means nothing. What is said means nothing. The live information and the live link is valueable.

Perhaps Arnett needs to fill in the dots to keep the locals happy and keep him streaming. He's not there to wave the flag. He's there to provide coverage and believe it or not, it serves our interests.

Open that field of view a little, and see the bigger picture. I'm not at all in favor of any anti sentiment, however, words are far less important than other things. Much of what's been passed on by reporters who are behind Iraqi lines has been shaded material, but it's still valueable intel all the same. In many cases, reports from behind the lines are always prefaced with a note that the information is being monitored or controlled by iraqi forces...just as the reporter is only allowed to release a broadcast or report covering what the iraqi's want the world to see.

That's what we see on television. Don't get caught up in the small picture.

What Avbug said

"The first casualty of war is truth."

Arnett is good TV because of how controversial he is. It was the same in '91.

He's doing his same schtick. Big deal. I don't even bother to listen to any of it. It's all garbage.

The US govt is lying to me. The Iraqi govt is lying to me.

What kind of a fool would I be if I just sat there in my valuable free time and just let people lie to me?

Go read a book instead. Your blood pressure will come down 20 points.

Peace.

He had better hope none of our special forces inside Baghdad get wind of his little speech. If he meets them on a dark street, his career will be over, permanently.

The term they used was "severed ties." National Geographic has also "severed ties" with him. Good.

Indeed, another "Hanoi Jane."

I agree, considering the circumstances, that the truth of what he said is suspect, but perception is truth. While a CLOSED mouth may often be misunderstood it is never misquoted. It's called discretion.

His words will have the effect prolonging the war and increasing the death and misery on both sides.

Apparently, both NBC....and National Geographic, have given him the boot saying he wont be reporting for either anymore....GOOD!!!!!

...and he'll be picked up by another news outlet, just as he did after CNN didn't renew his contract after the false sarin gas story. If he doesn't get another news gig, he'll go teach journalism at columbia univ. he'd fit right in at that school, apparently.

I heard Arnett was a US citizen. seems to me he's violated Article III, section 3 of the Constitution, unless words don't matter here. Apparently words have kept the Iraqis fighting and their citizens wary of our soldiers. 10 yrs in the fed pen (or worse) would probably slow Pete down a little.

That guy was a major source of low morale when I was in Desert Storm.
Now he's making things difficult for the guys there now! What a class act!
