Amen to that, guys! We are really fortunate to be waiting on an airline who is financially sound and has a clear plan and purpose. Over time, SWA has proven it is a warrior, and it is doing it again. Looking forward to DAL and a bright future. Take care.

Article on "Ripple Affect on Airlines" Good news on SWA in the middle

I don't have any specific news but I'm optimistic about several things that bode well for the swimmers.

1. The IC vote will be yes, not by a lot but it will pass. The most expensive part of the labor equation will be predictable for the next 4 years which allows for better long term strategic planning.

2. The company will respond shortly with more classes to compensate for the new aicraft coming in this fall. Probably no more than 2-4 classes for the year though. Again speculation on my part, no definitive words. I've been wrong before so don't go & sell your house!

3. The company has great financial strength & cash available to move into markets that are being vacated by others as they re-trench. It won't be overnight but it will move nonetheless into markets they already have but wish to increase frequency. The old connect the dot theory is alive & well as they have said.

4. DAL, USA & other leasers have many 737 they wish to lease & the price for these are going down. Deliveries for new 737s are being put on hold at other companies that are also looking to lease airplanes, SWA can help them out in both ways, lease current airplanes & take delivery of new aircraft from other airlines that otherwise they would face a penalty for not taking delivery. Add these to our expected deliveries for '03 we could see several more aircraft in '03 than expected. Pure speculation on my part but a possible way to take advantage of the current economic situation in the aircraft lease/purchase market.

5. Most importantly, keep your head up & hang in there. This time of being in the pool is obviously stressful & seems like an eternity. SWA will recover quicker & once it does it will load up faster than any of expect so the pool will drain. Keep in mind we were 2 classes a month only 4.5 months ago with no end in sight. That spigot could be turned on immediately if SWA deems it appropriate. Thanks again for being loyal to SWA. Keep focused on your family, faith & friends & SWA will be a part of your life before you know it. Good luck & keep the faith.

Thanks again Chase for the pickmeup. I know that SWA is in the prime position, but reading it from someone inside the company and the stock analyzers makes it easier to hold out.

Didn't sell the house but I did buy 12 more acres in beautiful Tennessee for a future "Captain's house".

Southwest Airlines two years 'away'

Southwest Airlines' planners told Mayor Alan Autry Tuesday that Fresno remains in contention for passenger service -- but not for at least two years.
Autry, airline consultant Mike Boyd and Patti Miller, spokeswoman for Fresno Yosemite International Airport, met with six Southwest planners in the carrier's Dallas offices.

Autry said after the meeting that he is encouraged that talks raised Fresno's profile as a candidate city.

He thought he succeeded in reassuring Southwest about the pace of construction to expand Fresno Yosemite International Airport and of finding a new transportation director. He conceded that he won no guarantee that Southwest service to the city is on the horizon.

The slow-going airport expansion project includes four jetways that officials hope will attract more jet carriers, specifically Southwest.

The new concourse was supposed to be completed in February. City officials have said it could be done as late as October.

Autry said he had reminded the airline planners of expansion of the airport and of the area's freeway system. Autry spoke to The Bee from Dallas and Little Rock, Ark.

He also reassured them that the city will soon be hiring "a top-notch airports director." The city fired its transportation director, Charles Hayes, in March.

Troubles in the airline industry have stifled expansion plans among carriers, Southwest planners told the mayor.

"These are still uncertain times in the airline industry," Autry said after the meeting.

"I will say this: We are on the radar screen. We already were on Southwest's radar, and I think we've grown from a blip into a bigger blip."

Boyd, speaking from Denver after the session, said that the meeting allowed Fresno representatives "to schmooze" Southwest and to remind the airline of the city's continuing growth.

"It doesn't mean this will result in air service right away," he said. "They flat out said not for two years."

On the other hand, Boyd said, Southwest wouldn't have met with the mayor's group if the airline were not considering Fresno.

"The meeting left us in a better position, sure," he said. "They know about the terminal, about better access to the terminal" and people moving to Fresno from other areas.

At Southwest, spokeswoman Angela Vargo had no information about the mayor's meeting, but did say that more than 150 cities vie for inclusion in the airline's airport service list each year.

Southwest adds one new city a year on average, she said, but the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks that savaged the air travel industry will hold off expansion for the next year or two.

Although Southwest remains profitable, Vargo said, "We are in recovery."

She listed several factors that Southwest considers in adding or rejecting city destinations:

An overpriced and under-served market attracts Southwest.

Southwest avoids congested hub cities and airports.

The airline looks for airports located away from large international airports.

New jetways are a plus because Southwest looks for airports capable of sustaining growth.

Autry thinks Fresno Yosemite International has what Southwest needs, and not just because of its growth.

He reminded the airline executives about the new baseball stadium downtown, economic growth, 3.5 million people living from Bakersfield to Stockton and new businesses coming to the airport.

Fresno has the potential to be the top regional airport in the San Joaquin Valley, he said.

The mayor, who combined the airline discussion with visits to in-laws in Little Rock, said he felt optimistic:

"They didn't seem too concerned about delays. They said they have always been impressed with Fresno as a potential market."

I have been flying LUV for about 8 years. Hell, I even have a Southwest credit card. The planes are on time and **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** near always full. I am taking my proceeeds from the JBLU IPO and buying. LUV has the easiest plan for Rapid Rewards:
1. Book on line ( 4 credits)
2. Book an Alamo rental car (1 credit)
3. Put all my charges on S.W. credit card

I am collecting about 1 freebee a month and all the free booze I can give to the people I sit next to. On second thought, since I am a new stockholder, I should be giving them away as stocking stuffers for my salesmen. Those little $4.00 bottles are loaded with profit.

One road trip = 5-6 credits.

This is like shooting fish.

I get a real kick watching U. S. Air collapse. I can't get into Charlotte N.C. for $900.00, But I fly into RDU for $112.00 on LUV and it is on time.

It's sorta like flying Greyhound but at least
LUV is making money!!!In this economy we have all had to tighten our belts.

Keep up the Good work LUV, I will see you Monday morning on the usual 7:15 A.M. outbound with a 1,000 shares in my portfolio!!!!!
