I'm gonna go easy on you because you obviously have no clue and are probably just some kid.

You have no idea what PTS does to an individual and until youve been there and seen that I think you can shut your mouth. `Cracking up' is an antiquated notion and people deal with stress in different ways.

Your so called `bros' may very well have PTS conditions that they dont disclose to you. Surprise, surprise! it's not something any of us talk about generally.

In future how about you pull your head out of your ass and think about what you are going to post before you post it.

FYI - there are alot of people who are veterans here and most of them probably think your a dick right about now.

Not every nut case who once fought in the war is a nut case because of the war!!! Stop using that as an excuse!!! I know lots soldiers who killed lots of dudes, watched plenty of their bro's get killed, and they still managed to integrate themselves back into a normal life without cracking up!!!

And as far as thanking the current administration...most of us are more than are eager to get back to the fight and honorably serve our President and nation...so Im sure he'd appreciate your thanks!

Also, most of the military could care less about the negative opinions of the civilian population and/or media. The whole "support the troops" campaign is nice, but my decision to serve is not dependent upon your opinions or support. The only opinions we care about is our brothers and our own!!!

Aussie, let me explain further….

I first replied to this thread because I thought an immediate association was made between his possible PTSD and his actions on the plane. Maybe there is a connection, maybe not. I just don’t want speculation to assume he is a “nut job terrorist” because of the war. As a generalization, this is an insult to those who serve and those who do suffer from PTS and restrain from violent acts against society…this is my main point. Again, he is a veteran, he is my hero, and I expect him to be cared for accordingly during his trial…not have his “head blown off.”

My experience with PTS is with two different types of individuals…war veterans and rape victims. I understand the destructive and personally damaging nature of PTS and how, with prolonged trauma, it can disrupt and alter one’s brain chemistry…how it can change a person. In no way am I trying to downplay the seriousness here. Two of my buddies have PTS…they periodically talk to me about it and they are making amazing progress. I’m sure there are more. I still stand by my point that not all will live a personal hell and return with PTS. It doesn’t make one less of a man if he does…perhaps his experiences were far more traumatic.

I posted my previous threads a little too quickly…the tone was not what I intended.

I’ve spent 2 years of my life over there and dealt with my own demons…in no way a kid.

My bottom line: let’s not immediately associate veteran’s alleged illegal actions as a result of his/her experiences from the war.

fair point, I might have been a bit to quick to the draw. As a former soldier having seen active duty I always have taken exception with with comments made about PTSD from civilians (which from reading your profile are probably USAF).

I can get worked up with mil vs. civ issues as well, but I also understand that my status as an active duty officer/military pilot doesn’t grant me the privilege to assume I’m always correct!

Yep…USAF. Been flying spec ops for the past 5 years/active duty for the past 9. My current position, both in the cockpit and out, has allowed me to integrate with the Army quite a bit, so I’m not talking out my arse!!!

Possible plane attack thwarted

By REBECCA CATALANELLO, Times Staff Writer
Published July 7, 2006
TAMPA — Passengers physically restrained a man on a flight from New York City who stormed toward the cockpit of a Delta flight as it was about to land at Tampa International Airport shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday.

New York resident Jason Moore, 27, visiting family in St. Petersburg, said he was sitting two rows from the rear of the plane when a man took a seat at the very back of the aircraft 15 or 20 minutes before it was scheduled to land.

“I didn’t hear him say a word. He just kind of seemed like he was nervous, he was anxious,’’ Moore said.

He described the man as Hispanic, 25 to 30 years old, wearing a New York Yankees baseball hat.

About five minutes before the plane was scheduled to touch down, the man stood up, Moore said, and ran “like he was running in a track meet’’ down the aisle toward the cockpit.

Passengers in the first class section heard the commotion, saw him coming, and two to three large men in that section tackled and restrained the man, Moore said.

“It was really inspiring to see that,’’ he said of their reaction, recalling 9-11. You could hear him running down the aisle quickly, and they got up and intervened, he said.
“They didn’t need to know anything else. They just got up and contained him.’’

He said the man spoke Spanish, and when he was sitting at the back of the plane, he behaved oddly, tapping people on the shoulder and pointing to some oriental tattoos on his arms. Flight attendants brought someone who had been seated with him at the front to speak with him at one point, Moore said.

The last time he saw him, he was seated in wheelchair in handcuffs, he said.

“He just looked like he didn’t know what was going on.’’

The plane took off from La Guardia Airport at 8:05 p.m. and landed at 11:10. p.m.

Police questioned the passengers who were involved and members of the crew, Moore said.

He called it “definitely the most interesting flight I’ve ever been on.’’

Tampa Fire Rescue officials said they responded to the call, but referred questions to airport authorities. TIA spokeswoman Brenda Geoghagan could not be reached for comment.

That is one positive thing that 9/11 gave us. Hijacking an airplane doesnt work anymore. Americans wont tolerate being held hostage any more...we just stop them...i find it hard to believe that an attack similar to 9/11 with airplanes being used as missles could ever happen again. it was a one time thing...because from now on...we just wont allow something like that to happen. we now know better and if the terrorists arent scared as hell of pulling stuff on Americans...they dang well should be.

I think that you are grotesquely underestimating the tenacity of radical Islamic fundalmentalists. I won't give them that advantage.

I dont underestimate what radical terrorists are capable of...i think septemeber 11th firmly cemented in every American's mind just how capable they are...that doesnt change the fact that they can be stopped. The fact that no attack has occured since 2001 is a testament to the good job we are doing of stopping these guys before they carry out their plans.

I think the key point is that they typically are targetting seemingly soft or easy targets. When people start implementing force protection protocols or upgraded security it's liekly that they will start looking at easier targets.

I think thats more the reason why aviation has not been struck since 911. Having said that aviation represents a high value target for them and as such receives a higher level of interest from islamic extremists. Afterall, no secutiry is perfect and evey system has deficiencies.

pre-911, aviation was incredibly vulnerable from a security standpoint and was a particularly easy target for the extremists for very little risk. Nowdays that may not be the case and they may never know which cockpit they are going to strike an FFDO whos prepared to defend the flight deck at all costs. It makes for a much riskier operation.

Like any force they view the risk/reward ratio for any intended action and with the upgaded security it may have swung that ratio back to our favour.

A major security concern at the moment is the movement of transport shipping around teh coastal U.S. Can you imagine the environmental and economic affect that a strike against a large super tanker would cause. It is something whihc is largely difficult to defend against without good HUMINT sources on the ground. This is just one avenue that is open to them and outlines the vulnerability of a nation to defend against guerrilla tactics.

(CAVEAT: This information is not a breach nor is it giving anyone ideas as it has been openly discussed in the public media).

Cheers
aussie

i heard a story that over 300 servicemen and women in Iraq have been executed for various reasons, mental illnesses, speaking out against the war, etc. and the people coming back while the GOP has cut VA funding are in for a horrible surprise as well. food for thought

Yeah, I heard a story that Jesus is coming next week. I have sold everything and I am waiting to be taken into the next world. Dude, someone needs to put a fire hose on you.
