TAMPA, Fla. -- A frightening incident on a New York-to-Florida flight, where passengers tackled another flier they said rammed the cockpit door.


And it turns out the suspect is a U.S. Army solider who served in Iraq.

This happened Thursday night on a Delta flight to Tampa, where an airport spokeswoman said the soldier is in custody. Authorities are using a state law that lets them hold someone without charges if they pose a threat.

She said the soldier's brother told investigators he has mental problems related to his military service. But the spokeswoman adds there's no evidence he meant to harm anyone on the flight.

Still, one passenger describes the soldier as behaving oddly by tapping people on the shoulder and pointing to his tattoos. About five minutes before landing, he said the soldier got up and ran down the aisle like he was "in a track meet."

The VA has not received any cuts in funding where I'm at. In fact, my physician at the local VA says that she's amazed at the amount of the GI's returning from Iraq who don't take advantage of the benefits available to them. The only surprise to me once getting back in-country was how well I was treated by the VA. Keep dreaming.:erm:

Not every nut case who once fought in the war is a nut case because of the war!!! Stop using that as an excuse!!! I know lots soldiers who killed lots of dudes, watched plenty of their bro's get killed, and they still managed to integrate themselves back into a normal life without cracking up!!!

And as far as thanking the current administration...most of us are more than are eager to get back to the fight and honorably serve our President and nation...so Im sure he'd appreciate your thanks!

Also, most of the military could care less about the negative opinions of the civilian population and/or media. The whole "support the troops" campaign is nice, but my decision to serve is not dependent upon your opinions or support. The only opinions we care about is our brothers and our own!!!

Im not saying good folks don't break...not at all. Break or not, the boys on the ground are, and will always be, my heroes. I'm just sick and tired of the left generalizing that "oh, it must because of the war" syndrome. Im fourth generation military and I know firsthand, perhaps you do as well, how a war can affect a person. The point I want to make is that when you reach that breaking point, most still no the difference between right and wrong...and if they don't, then I argue that a large part of their disorder was present prior to the stress of war, and perhaps only magnified as a result.
