Rumor Control

I am a pilot at GIA. We are hearing rumors "only" rumors that our CEO/Scab Tom Cooper is either stepping out or is being booted out of the business. Cooper only cares about his training academy which costs 24K-25K and . . . his Havana charters. Gulfstream operates these scheduled charters from MIA-HAV. Most often than not, these trips are flown at full capacity.

We keep hearing rumors that we may be going to IAH & CLE to fly the prop routes that COEX once flew. Other rumors are that CAL may buy more of a controlling intrest in Continental Connection a.k.a Gulfstream. I believe that CAL currently owns 28% as of now but I'll keep you posted. Rumors say this %$#@ may happen at any time. Most of us are waiting until the end of the year though.

The big rumor is that CAL will be a 3 tier operation i.e CAL doing mostly all of the transcontinental/international flying. COEX expanding into some CAL routes for example EWR-DAB. And finally, Connection flying the old COEX routes as COEX expands.

Hope this helps.... Prop Lag

proplag, your rumors sound pretty sound. There's a 50% 50% you guys are going to be doing just what you posted. Time will tell, hold on for a ride!

Just to add to the rumor mill. The station agents at some of the smaller Houston area outstations were very worried they would be shut down or change over to Gulfstream. They were told last week that Gulfstream was never even seriously considered for the IAH hub prop flying and that another carrier was. Even if BPT/EFD/CLL etc. get some 19 seaters or 30 seaters they would still get a few jets a day and thus remain Express stations which made the agents I spoke to very happy. Job security, at least for our agents looks bright. As for the pilots of Express/CAL/Commutair/Gulfstgream; anything could happen.

New rumors about 2003 and Expressjet being sought out for feed for another big 4 airline are flying around now. Who knows what will happen.

James Bond does indeed drive an Aston Martin (the Vanquish to be exact). It is in the new Bond movie. Infact James Bond realy drives a Bentley (at least in the original books).

The only way TLC will go out is in a box.

And, as Billy Joel assures us: "only the good die young"

You are correct! The bad guys drive a Jag in the new movie. And, the new Bond is Irish.

What does the "Saint" drive in the books? Surely, not a Volvo! If Jaguar was smart, they could have got a lot of advertising for their XKE. As it was, a P1800 became the TV star.

Continental Plans for Turboprop Hub Service

CAL management informed us that the Marketing/Revenue Departments believe they can marginally increase revenue by flying 19-seat turboprop B1900s to 10 cities from CLE. Following
that would be a possible reintroduction of turboprop markets using larger 30-seat turboprops into IAH markets.

ExpressJet management informed us they have no intentions of flying the turboprops. Senior Continental managers made the decision that the company would not start these markets until all CAL and CALEX furloughed pilots were back at work or we were able to find a method to place our furloughed pilots into these jobs.

The third party will be a current Continental Connection carrier. We have agreed to work with CAL management and the third-party carrier to address the problems and find the solutions
required. Great Deal? NO. But management is looking for ways to enhance revenue. That is a positive for the short term and increases the viability of CLE as a hub city. Would we have preferred that ExpressJet fly this service? YES. But they are sticking to their business plan to fly an all-jet service. Our two CBAs would not have prevented this expansion and, therefore, the turboprop markets could have begun later next year without our members receiving the jobs.

From the financial analysis perspective, there is little reason to deny this revenue source to Continental. With 7,000 airline pilots on the street, the acquisition of jobs for our furloughed pilots
is not inconsequential...

...the pilots who fly the Continental Brand under all of these schemes are not
our enemies. We plan to put out our hand to the Connection carrier’s pilots and find solutions that
work – not divide...
