He is an exerpt of a post on the IPA message board. It was posted by a person that is usually very reliable and credible but take it as a rumor for now, but a very credible on at that.

The word over in the Pac Rim is that vacancy bid will most likely come
out on Thursday or Friday. From what I was told, it is going to be
big. Approximately 77 Captains and 43 F/O's! Most vancancies are on
the Md-11 and A300. They are also filling any Captain who are going
to turn 60 in 2005. This is strictly a vacancy bid, no realignments.
This will really be a total of 120 F/0 upgrades because of the Captain
bid. I wonder if some of the new hires will find a right seat.

UPS has MD-11s and A300s? Sounds like FedEx to me.

Yep they have both. It was a battle in the late 90's to see who could acquire the most MD-11's UPS or FEDeX.

The Swissair MD-11's sat for quite a while with no takers - - it didn't look like a battle to me. I don't think UPS got their first MD-11 until 2001. (2000 maybe?) UPS had problems employing the MD-11's with a third crewmember intially due to contract issues. But, yes, they have some.

Here are the rumored number of vacancies.

Vacancy Bid 05-101

12 757 CPT SDF
10 757 F/O SDF
5 757 CPT SDFZ

The SDF domestic 757/767 domicile serves the lower 48 states. The SDFZ 757/767 international domicile serves practically the entire worldwide route system.

Im not that happy with these numbers

I might be wrong, but I cant see a vacancy bid coming out and there only being 1 757 SDFZ FO. Seems kinda low. I thought we are growing internationaly?

Unless there are alot of people going to bypass upgrade from the backseat to the right seat, and if these numbers are correct, it will still not come close to the new hires, and I mean the new hires from 2001...

Not sure how it works as far as this actually equalling 120 FO's. For the sake of those of us that have been waiting on a right seat here for many years, I hope the numbers are higher...

77+43= 120

77 captain vacancies (newly created captain positions) + 43 FO vacancies (newly created first officer positions) = 120 FO vacancies.

(77 existing first officers will upgrade to captain, freeing those existing FO slots for FE upgrades + 43 FO vacancies = 120 FO slots.)

Hope this clears it up.

i just heard from someone in the know( a very reliable source )that brown was going to furlough 100 due to tough economic times, over-staffing and attempts to reduce expenses...

doh.. sorry, sorry--that was last year.

I think the numbers could be higher. This might be the number of F/O slots that have to be filled as of right now, not including the number of additional vacancies that will need to be filled as F/O's leave the right seat for the left seat. i.e., I'm not sure if these numbers include recurring vacancies.

For what it's worth, I flew with an ACP over the summer. At the time, he told me he expects every F/E under the age of 60 to be in the right seat by spring/summer of 2005. I think you should have a very good shot at a right seat on this bid.

I see, the Capt slots to be filled will be filled with current FO's leaving thier current seats open and then the other FO openings leaving the total numbers of FO spots. Sorry for my ingnorance, Im not use to seeing anyting in the way of upward movement since Ive been hired here...

Thanks BBDC8

I agree, I think there'll be more sdfz 75/76 FO spots

My bud who was hired two months before me in the summer of 2001, is 60 numbers ahead of me is already on the right seat of the 75/76 sdfz. He was upgraded as of the last bid a few months back.

All us 2001 guys/gals will be in the right seat before summer. I'll bet you a beer on it bbdc8! It's just a matter of what plane.
