We are all pilots here (majority), and flying on Great Mistakes was one of the most horrifying experiences ever!!!!!

My woman is a senior investigator for the NTSB. She says they are doomed if they continue thier current path.

Stay away!@@!@!

Slaab, who the fu@K are you? Dissing Lakes, dissing Colgan...Not that these fine organizations don't deserve dissing, but it doesn't answer TS6M's question. Anyway, if you fly a Saab - anywhere - your life ain't much better. Get a life.

Great Mistakes is actually incorporated into their training at the academy of what to watch for....................Bad news!!!!!!!!!!

Ok whatever A$@! I work for Saab moron!!!

and the gentleman TS6M asked for info, and thats what I supplied. So I would appreciate it if you'd get up off my back about it. If the government says its a bad Op. (FAA, NTSB, DOT....not to mention people who fly on these wonderful operations)I would think it is safe to go with the general consensus.......don't you??

or am I wrong??

You work for Saab, well that is fantastic. Best wishes selling an obsolete orphan of an aircraft. Err, ahem, excuse me...An obsolete orphan with a cargo door. Forgive my gaffe.

And despite management's efforts to kill us all, the employees maintain a safe, upstanding operation. If the FAA thinks we're an accident waiting to happen, why don't they hassle us? Answer: They don't, therefore they don't.

Kind of off-topic, but how is the contract thing going? Last I heard you guys voted it down 100% (which may be one of the coolest things I've ever heard).

Just wondering how it's going. Best of luck...

I'm trying to track down an old college buddy of mine. Last I heard he was flying there. If you could help please PM me and I'll give you his name.

whatever is whatever.....argueing is senseless.

Good day sir!

(oh sorry its past your bedtime probably cardinal)

PeAcE!

Interviewed with Great Mistakes June of 99'. Got an August class date, which was pushed back indefinetly by the end of july. Sept 11 came and went just like that class date. Next time I heard form them was 8 months later at my cargo job (which I wasn't about to leave). Hindsights always 20/20 and I can't tell you how glad I am that I never went to class at GLA. But I had pretty low time back then and it seemed like a good opportunity. But hey, like I said hindsight is 20/20 and I can say that had I gone there I wouldn't have stayed long. Just my $.02, the general consensus is STAY AWAY!

Have you guys (Lakers) been released yet?? That 100% no vote was awesome!! With all the EAS stuff you guys have, is there any word if you'll get a strike authorization? I'm sure old Voss has lot's of money stashed away for the upcoming rainy day, I wonder if he'll offer a better deal, or cut and run!!

Only a Laker can bash Lakes. I had a great time there except for all the jr. manning. I'm still pissed about those days off taken away.

Amen to that. I flew there, too, and the experience was invaluable. All of that mountain flying and high density altitude stuff. I know that flying rather bare-bones equipment made me a better pilot than if I'd come to rely on an autopilot or flight director exclusively. And I will say that I had a lot of respect for most of the mechanics - they were good. I was never given a plane to fly that I didn't feel safe in. It may not have looked great (Voss doesn't seem to believe in paint...), but the planes seemed safe enough. I flew about 3500 hours for them and I have never had an engine failure or any other serious mechanical problem.

As for the chief pilot, the new guy is very good and finds a good balance in his role as leader to the pilot group and as a member of management.

I don't post too much, but after slaabpilots tasteful and informative messages, I couldn't resist. I'd like to start off by saying you're an unprofessional jacka$$, and if your girlfriend truly does work for the NTSB, she doesn't know her a$$ from a hole in the ground. If you were terrified to fly on us, ya probably need to grow a set puss, because we don't do anything out of the ordinary from any other T-prop operators. I've been at Lakes for a while and I've been screwed six ways from Sunday in all aspects since I started here. I very seldomly defend the place, HOWEVER, by your past statements, you're taking a stab at the pilot group, not the company dumba$$. In my time there, I've never been forced to operate in an unsafe manner or do anything I've been uncomfortable with. The pilots here are top shelf and held to an extremely high standard. If they can't cut it, they wash out of training. I think the last accident I recall was 15+ years ago, so I'd love to hear how Lakes is on the road to a disaster. I'm sure you're a professional on this issue since you don't work here. Think before posting you reject.

When were you two guys there? I know quite a few lakers from my old college.

Late 2000 to late 2004.

I think the last accident I recall was 15+ years ago

In 1996 a GLA B1900 collided with a King Air at a small, uncontrolled airport in central Illinois. All injuries were fatal. Not that I'm placing blame on GLA but it was less than 15 years ago.

Hey lost,

Very professional of your self.....and I have know 7 people that I could name right(who I still send xmas cards to) that worked there that tell me the storys. No need to get specific because of people involved, but dont think for a minute that because you one pilot that works there that you know everything about their day to day ops.

Yes she does work for the NTSB, yes my friends work for the FAA, and yes they all say Lakes stink.

NOW>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>The gnetleman only asked for an opinion, and everyone has them, so for the love of GOD LET ME STATE MINE!!!!!!!!

thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I happen to know a couple of guys that used to work there, as well as a couple of reliable contacts at the DEN FSDO as well as the SEA FSDO. Never heard such giberish!!! Not to say the company isn't brutal, check-ride dept vs training dept.

In fact another source that works for the NTSB out of SEA, she handles the SLC area, has actually dealt with Lakers on a couple of matters, had nothing but positive thing's to say about the crews. Management on the other hand she explained was a different story. From what I could gather, they (the FAA) scrutinizes mesa a lot closer than Lakes.

For what it's worth!!!!

Make up you mind, WHo does she work for????

B/S

Again Guys....I was just Giving my two cents, but with this much retorting going on it has to make you wonder.....right??

Not sure but wasnt that accident at the fault of the King Air pilot? If i remember correctly it was at an uncontrolled field and the king air took off on the intersecting runway while the beech was landing. Like i said i am unsure, could have been another accident. But i think the blame was on the King air.

As I stated I have contacts at both!! Nobody is doubting your squeeze works at the NTSB, I think guys are getting bent out of shape over the fact that you are slamming Lakes, and it appears you know nothing about the company or the people!! And from what you are saying, if it were that bad there, they, (NTSB-FAA) would have closed the place down long ago!?!?

JUST MY OPINE!!!!

I was under the impression it was both crew's fault. King Air for not having radio communications, and the 1900 for landing without understanding where King Air was.

Thats the story i heard but can you really blame the beech crew when the king air wasnt making radio calls. See there was another General aviation aircraft holding short behind the king air and was making radio calls so the 1900 thought that they were the only one around and the other traffic was holding short. I dont know the full story but from the bit that i do know the 1900 didnt do anything wrong. the king air should have been listening to the radio calls being called out by the 1900 and should have held short. just my 2 cents
