Kudos to the pilots!
Scary landing for Polk County chopper

A Polk County Sheriff's Office helicopter had to make an emergency landing just before 2:30 Thursday morning.
The chopper was assisting deputies overnight following a suspicious vehicle when it experienced some sort of mechanical failure, forcing the pilot to land without power. They made a hard landing in a field near Highland City at the end of Yarborough Lane near Crews Lake Drive.
The pilot and two deputies on board were not hurt.
The damage to the chopper is unknown, though there appeared to be little structural damage.
Since there was no crash involved and no one on board was injured, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will not investigate. That will be handled by the sheriff's office.
Investigators said the 1971 chopper has logged hundreds of thousands of flight hours, and it could take some time for mechanics to determine the extent of the power failure.
