I heard the Captain made a PA announcement just before landing. According to the NTSB at approximately 500 ft the Captain stated on the PA, "Hey y'all, hold onto my beer and watch this!!"

While It's harder for me to imagine this happening in a 70 than a 50. I wasn't there, wasn't flying, and like everyone else on here, have no idea what happened. Let the flames resume!

Mesaba had a wingtip strike a few years ago on the CRJ900. The plane flew for 4 days before a Captain finally noticed the damage on a post flight walk around as the offending crew never bothered to write it up and a dozen pre flights went by without anyone noticing either.
